At the recently completed BASELWORLD 2015 show in Switzerland, SWISS sport watch maker Alpina announced the new Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph watch.

Alpina was founded way back in 1883, and has been a pioneer of the Swiss watchmaking industry for over 130 years. As a premier designer and manufacturer of both wristwatches and pocket-watches, Alpina announced the luxury brand’s first chronograph that developed and produced in-house – the Calibre AL-760. The design utilizes the AL-710 rotor calibre with a balance frequency of 4 Hertz, centre seconds, in addition to a date hand at the 6 o’clock position.

The pressing action of the new Calibre AL-760 is very smooth, as well as both the stopping and resetting operations. Another feature is the column wheel that rotates on bearings that controls the three start, stop and reset functions. The winding rotor also operates in both directions.

The key part in all chronographs is the clutch. Repeating pressing of the start/stop push-piece causes slight pivoting of the clutch lever. The rotations of the chronograph hand are “recorded” by the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

In 1938, when the iconic “Alpina 4” sports watch was introduced, the figure “4” represented four unique characteristics at the same time:
1) – Antimagnetic
2) – Water-resistant “Geneva” case
3) – Incabloc shock protection, and
4) – Use of non-rusting stainless steel for the highly robust case.

The new Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph luxury watch by Alpina features a sporty and elegant stainless steel case. There is a screw-down winding and setting crown, plus a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that measures 45 millimetres in diameter.

You will find a counter at the 3 o’clock position that adds cumulative times up to 30 minutes. At 9 o’clock, the permanent-seconds hand rotates normally. The Super-LumiNova-highlighted dial from Alpina showcases the date hand at the 6 o’clock position. Lastly, the watch hands are luminous at night.

The Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph watch can withstand water pressure of up to 10 atmospheres, which is similar to a diving depth of 100 metres. The watch’s crown and push-piece are placed in in a straight line, despite the modular construction. of the calibre AL-760.

The incredible Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens in Las Vegas is welcoming Spring’s arrival with an amazing display of Japanese culture. Discover the diverse culture of Japan, often called the Land of the Rising Sun with an exhibit featuring greater than 82,000 flowers and floral creations that are truly larger-than-life!

This Japanese Garden display at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is the first one that is Japanese inspired. There are two beautiful exhibits in total that focus on Japan’s culture covering art and nature. The display consist of fresh tulips, daffodils and snapdragons.

Located in the West Garden of the Bellagio Las Vegas resort, you’ll find a sacred scene that features a Japanese temple towering 26-foot-tall. The temple was inspired by Kyoto’s famous Golden Temple. Residing on a shore next to peaceful waters, the gorgeous Japanese temple is decorated in gold veneer and wood frames with traditional rice paper Shoji screens.

On golden sand in the South Garden of Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, see a traditional Japanese-inspired tea house. This tea house was custom built utilizing bamboo pieces, mineral copper accents and natural logs. Standing 12 feet high, the tea house celebrates the time honored, ancient tradition of drinking tea in Japan.

Near the tea house on the North Bed, view a lush, hanging garden of both Bougainvillea and Wisteria. Below the garden is abstract stone art that represent various icons of Japanese cultural. Examples are Mount Fuji, the turtle and crane. Illuminating the beautiful and colorful garden are stone lanterns that provide the ideal ambiance.

Found in East Garden is a tremendous 18-foot high cherry blossom tree. This tree is decorated with 300 acrylic blossoms and leaves. At the cherry blossom tree’s base, is a soothing pond stocked with 75 Koi fish. The pond is replenished by a cascading tsukubai waterfall from flows from a height of 16 feet. Two ornate floral topiaries are comprised of 15,000 fresh-cut flowers: the first is a six foot majestic crane and the second a seven foot long turtle. The animals are protected by 35 amazing hand-painted parasols hanging from above.

The Conservatory display is the result of efforts between between the expert horticulture team at the Bellagio, MGM Resorts International Event Productions, plus consultation from Master Gardener Kanji Nomura from Nagoya.

Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is open to the public daily, 24 hours a day and admission is free. Between the hours of 4:30 pm and 6 pm each day, live musicians will perform a variety of Japanese melodies on a floating platform.

The Japanese Garden display will be available at Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens now until May 11. Golden Week is a national celebration in Japan that recognizes several significant holidays in Japanese culture, such as Constitution Day, Greenery Day plus Children’s Day.

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice.
Strain into a rocks glass, then fill with fresh ice.
Garnish with cucumber slices.

3/4 parts Plymouth Gin
3/4 parts Lemon Juice

Combine all ingredients, except the soda water into a cocktail shaker.
Shake briefly with ice.
Strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Add soda water.
Add a lemon wheel and grate nutmeg across top.

The new in-house movements are the foundation for the new Admiral watch collection announced by Ateliers deMonaco. You will be able to view the new Watch collection at this week’s Baselworld Fair in Switzerland.

The term “Admiratus Admiratorum” which translates to “the most admired of the admired” was given during the reign of the Norman ruler Roger II (1095–1154) to his top naval commander – George of Antioch.

The patented manufacture flyback chronograph by Ateliers deMonaco measures a succession of elapsed times as well as eliminates many superfluous repetitive operations. As an example, in standard chronograph watches from other luxury brands, buttons have to be pushed three time in a row to to measure successive intervals. The first press stops the chronograph, the second to reset it to zero, and the third press starts it once again.

The creativity of the flyback function, is just a single press of the flyback” button not only stops timing the first interval, but will also reset the hand to zero. The chronograph hand starts once again as soon as button is released. That is true engineering!

Clearly the advantage of this type of mechanism is it utilizes a multi function Flyback Hammer. The Flyback Hammer is programmed to disengage the watch’s chronograph clutch wheel. Next it will engage the brake, then lastly turn both the chronograph second and minute wheel.

The admiral watch is still as popular today as ever. Pilots appreciate its accuracy and stylish looks. It’s also widely used in both racing and navigation.
