World’s Fastest Growing Luxury Market is in Qatar

A recent study completed by by Ledbury Research, has determined that the Middle-Eastern sovereign state of Qatar is world’s fastest growing luxury market.

The Ledbury Research report is titled “Global Luxury Hotspots” and announced that Qatar took the top spot as the world’s top 20 “fast-growing, frontier markets” for the luxury industry.

It may not be a surprise to many, but the Middle East with its vast natural resource reserves took the top three positions. The United Arab Emirates took second place and Saudi Arabia was ranked third in the luxury market survey.

Qatar has a relatively small population of only 2 million people, but just 250,000 are citizens.

Qatar was proud to have just held the World Luxury Expo and will be hosting the Football World Cup in 2022.

Nicola Ko is the senior luxury analyst at Ledbury Research and was quoted, “The Mall of Qatar is currently being built however, and with infrastructure to be improved in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup, the luxury industry has significantly more potential to grow in the country.”

Qatar has a history of investing in the luxury industry. It owns majority stakes in landmark department stores Harrods and Printemps in London and Paris, plus in Italian fashion brand Valentino.

To become even further entrenched in the luxury market, Qatar is also currently developing its own luxury label, titled “Qela.”

Top Hunger Games – Inspired Hotels

The second Hunger Games movie opens today in theaters across the U.S. – Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The much anticipated film starts off with Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) returning home after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games with Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson). They must next leave their families behind and embark on a “Victor’s Tour” of the various districts.

We were one the first media companies in the world to broadcast the Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie trailer back in July, giving Hunger Games fans a sneak peak at the upcoming movie.

Booking.com has put together a list of hotels from around the world with Hunger Games – inspired accommodations.  Which hotels do you feel Katniss Everdeen would be most comfortable staying  in?

Museum Hotel – Cappadocia, Turkey
The world watched as Katniss and Peeta huddled in a cave to try and outlive their fellow tributes in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. With Peeta struggling for his life, it is here that we all “oohed” and “aahed” as they shared their first kiss. While dirt, mud and covering ourselves with leaves don’t necessarily sound like the most ideal weekend getaway, we would opt for a bit more elegance in this Turkey, Museum Hotel (photo above) for our cave habitation.

Treehotel– Harads, Sweden
We can all remember Katniss Everdeen’s nights spent tied to tree branches, hiding from her Hunger Games rivals. The Treehotel in Sweden, allows guests to experience a similar nights’ stay…minus the flying arrows and tracker jackers. The hotel offers a unique and gravity-defying stay amid the Harads’ forest. No doubt Katniss would have preferred hunkering down in one of these cozier accommodations during her time in the 74th annual Hunger Games arena.

Bubble Hotel – Mullihotell – Suur-Rootsi, Estonia
Built to resemble a clock, with every hour bringing another torturous event by the Gamemakers, the 75th Hunger Games arena had the Tributes trapped in a deathly dome.  The Bubble Hotel – Mullihotell in Estonia provides those looking for a different type of accommodation a chance to experience that dome encasing.  As a partially transparent bubble tent with a transparent roof, visitors will feel like Katniss and Peeta, without having to worry about hourly attacks by monkey mutations and jabberjays.

nhow Berlin – Berlin, Germany
The residents of Panem’s Capital are beaming with flamboyant clothing and even more decorated skin.  With vibrant colored skin and tattoos, the people of the Capital will do anything to look the part – including implanting jewels into their bodies!  While we aren’t advising that you go out and dye yourself purple, we do recommend the nhow Berlin hotel, which exudes the same liveliness as Panem’s highest-praised district.

Sleepbox Hotel – Moscow, Russia
To make final preparations for the game, Katniss and her beloved stylist, Cinna, gather in her Launch Room to say their goodbyes.  It is here that Cinna applies the finishing touch to her arena uniform: The gold Mockingjay pin.  These capsule rooms are perfect for any visitor looking to get the Launch Room feel, without actually being thrust into a death match.  And no, we cannot promise a pin on every pillow.

Sheraton Diana Majestic Hotel– Milan, Italy
Located in the Appalachia, District 12’s main industry is coal mining. It was also the fault of a coal mining accident that Katniss and Prim lost their father, before the stories begin.  In honor of the mining district, we scoured the globe for an all-black hotel space…and we found it.  To get the full underground and coal experience, visitors can stay in this luxe hotel with the blackout rooms – it definitely beats getting yourself muddied in coal.

Longitude 131 – Ayers Rocks, Australia
While we truly can appreciate the courage, bravery and strength that each tribute has to enter the arena, our idea of camping is a little bit more glamorous.  Instead of a night in a man-made terrain watching arrows fly high above your head, how about a more comfortable evening spent under the stars in a man-made five star tent.  No offense to Katniss and the rest of the Hunger Games tributes, but “glamping” fits a little more with our style.

Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière – Paris, France
While we would all love to have the glitzy life like the infamous President Snow, some odds just aren’t in our favor. However, what we can promise is a Booking delightful stay in one of the world’s most glamorous properties. So kick back, relax, and eat as many berries as your heart desires.

If you are interested in booking a reservation at one of the above hotels, then please contact The Life of Luxury and one of our travel concierge specialists will assist with all of your travel needs.

For fishing lovers during the summer, try your luck with fly-fishing for rainbow or brown trout on the estate’s rivers or eight lakes.

With a busy schedule of hunting and shooting across the estate, you’re appetite will need to be dealt with. Corinthia’s Executive Chef Garry Hollihead will prepare an incredible breakfast and picnic lunch (depending on weather). The meals will be served to the guests by butlers and estate staff. Maximize Your Money During The Golden Years of Retirement

It’s no secret that people are living better due to better health care, exercise, etc… In the U.S., the average life was just 47 years back in 1900. That has steadily increased to 78 years in 2010.

As our population continues to grow, it’s also quickly aging. The main reason is the “Baby Boomer” generation. Each day in the U.S., about 10,000 people turn the golden age of 65 years old.

Living longer giver us more time to enjoy life, but can also put add a lot of stress worrying about how to keep the money flowing during retirement. By the year 2030, almost one in five Americans will be at the retirement age of 65 or older.

Unfortunately, money during retirement will be a huge problem for many of them, but there is still time to change that.

Chris Orestis is the CEO of Life Care Funding and senior health-care advocate. He was quoted, “With 30 percent of the Medicaid population consuming 87 percent of Medicaid dollars on long-term care services, we can see that’s not going to be sustainable. More individuals will be forced to find their own resources to pay for those needs.”

Several states including California, Texas, Florida and New York are welcoming legislation that requires seniors to be notified when they can convert their life insurance policy for 30 to 60 percent of its death benefit value. The money received via this manner can then be placed into an irrevocable fund that can be specifically designated for any form of care they choose.

This method offers the policy owner the option to use their own policy while still alive to help pay for their choice of any form of senior care services.

Orestis provides three additional ways for seniors to better cope with long-term care and other budgetary issues during retirement:

• Long-term care is a matter of survival, so use your best options. The practice of converting a life insurance policy into a Life Care Benefit has been an accepted method of payment for private duty in-home care, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and hospice care for years. Instead of abandoning a policy when they can no longer afford the premiums, policy owners have the option to take the present-day value of the policy while they are still alive and convert it into a Long Term Care Benefit Plan. By converting the policy, a senior in retirement will remain in private pay longer and be able to choose the form of care that they want but will be Medicaid-eligible when the benefit is spent down.

• Senior discounts really add up! Restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other merchants give various senior discounts with minimum age requirements ranging from 55 to 62. Some of these places are worth making habits, with 15 percent off the bill at Applebee’s, 30 percent off at Banana Republic and 60 percent off at Food Lion on Mondays! Don’t forget your free cup of coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts if you’re 55 or older, and don’t be shy – at many of these places you’ll have to ask for the discount.

• Your “last act” may be decades away, so plan accordingly. It makes sense to finally enjoy your money after a lifetime of savings, but be smart about it. Take time to organize your paperwork even before retirement and create a master file that holds things such as insurance policies, investments, property, wills and trusts, etc. so you have your financial picture in one place. Also, live smart today and hold off on that new car if you don’t need a new one. If your current car is paid off and you sit tight for an additional two years, you’ll save $7,200 on a new car with $300 monthly payments. Refinancing your home may also be a very good idea, since rates are still hovering around their all-time lows. Get at least three quotes, compare rates, terms and potential penalties to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Also, live healthy and buy more fruits and vegetables and less junk food to lessen the chance you’ll need long-term care in the future.

If you are interested in getting financial assistance and working with a money and/or insurance professional to help you and your family better deal with retirement, please contact The Life of Luxury.

A Sophisticated Wine – Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2011

Well recognized as one of the top estates in Italy, Bolgheri is also one of the favorite spots to produce wine in the world.

The Second Vin of Ornellaia is expected to meet all of the high expectations for Bolgheri’s most spectacular vintage.

Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2011 is the Estate’s ‘second vin.’ The great tasting wine is a cuvée of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes from the Bolgheri estate’s younger vineyards.

The Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2011 wine’s vintage ideally reflects the growing year that produced it – 2011. That year, the rains arrived just at the desired moment, right after flowering and veraison, which encouraged excellent development of the clusters.

Michel Rolland is an International Winemaker Consultant and commented on the vintage 2011, “Bolgheri is today one of the most famous spot to produce wine in the world. Everybody remembers the fantastic 2001 vintage. Ten years after 2011 is as amazing as 2001 was. But we are working better, and 2011 seems to be more sophisticated.”

The Ornellaia Estate extends over 97 hectares along the beautiful Tuscan coast, nearby the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri and the world famous, cypress-lined avenue “Viale dei Cipressi.”

Ornellaia has earned extensive recognition is consistently ranked among the top estates by the Italian Wine Guides, including: Espresso, Gambero Rosso, Duemilavini AIS, Veronelli plus Luca Maroni. In 2001, the 1998 Ornellaia was declared Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator.

Axel Heinzis the Ornellaia’s Winemaker and Production Director and stated, “The palate immediately amazes continued Heinz, “for its ripeness and quality tannins, which are supple, densely-packed and already strikingly glossy.”

Ornellaia’s company philosophy considers the birth of the wines to be the truest expression of their terroir. All of the grapes for Ornellaia are carefully selected by hand, and picked in the estate’s vineyards in Bolgheri, located on the Tuscan coast in Italy.

Stunning New Moon Phase Luxury Watch from Jaquet Droz

Luxury watch brand Jaquet Droz is a renowned Swiss watchmaker that has been in business since 1738.

Jaquet Droz has just introduced a new luxury watch – the Perpetual Calendar Eclipse. This beautiful watch is truly a poetic masterpiece of fine watchmaking.

The Eclipse is one of the watch brand’s most iconic timepieces. The craftsmen at Jaquet Droz brilliantly paired up the moon phase complication, which displays the fascinating cycles of the night of the sky on the dial, with the Perpetual Calendar.

The result is incredible and a finely orchestrated union, which definitely raises these two complications to a new level of visual elegance.

The Perpetual Calendar Eclipse watch features two straight hands on the black or ivory-colored Grand Feu enamel dial. It produces a sharp contrast with the curves of two wavy hands, tipped with a crescent moon.

At the 6 o’clock position, you’ll notice a black or ivory-colored onyx index that seamlessly moves across the face of a golden moon. The moon is revealed then concealing until its total eclipse.

The Jaquet Droz Perpetual Calendar Eclipse draws you in and then surprises with its innovative design and contemporary calendar display.

The luxury Jaquet Droz watch’s calendar information can be easily read on various places on the watch dial. Found on the left side is the day of the week and on the right side is the current date.

At the 12 o’clock position, there’s a single-hand counter that displays the month with the leap year that discreetly appears in a small window.

The total visual result plays out on a night sky that boasts eight stars, which is the watchmaker’s favorite number.

The new watch from Jaquet Droz also features a stylish black leather strap.

Pros and Cons of Debt Consolidation – Get Out of Your Mess

Many people choose to handle their debts through a process known as debt consolidation. The objective of consolidation is to turn many debts into a single one with a lower rate of interest.

Debt consolidation is an excellent way for someone with a lot of high interest debt from credit cards, car loans, or other high-interest loans to save money in the long run, as well as improve their credit rating.

It does not, however, absolve them of the debt, and in fact it requires them to offer up some form of collateral or other item of demonstrable value in order to justify the loan.

Still, the reduced rate of interest tends to not only make the buyer’s payments much lower and more affordable, it allows the borrower to save money in the long run by paying off more of the money they actually owe and less of the interest on the initial amount.

When someone chooses to consolidate their loans, they go to a bank or other lending institution and bring information regarding all of their extant loans. This can be everything from credit card bills to car loans to gambling debts.

Most of these loans are known as “unsecured loans” because the borrower does not have to offer up anything as collateral in the event that they are unable to pay off the loan. As such, the lender needs to have a high rate of interest on the loan in order to make sure that they will gain back the amount the originally spent, plus a profit.

The rate needs to be so high that even if many of the borrowers do not pay back the loan, the company still makes money. This is why credit card debt and gambling debt are famous for their high rates of interest, since it is common for borrowers to default on them.

A consolidated loan then pays off all those extant loans and replaces them with a single large loan that is secured, in that the lender asks for collateral in the form of goods, properties or investments that they can collect on should the borrower be unable to pay.

While this means that the consolidated loan cannot be larger than the value a borrower can offer in collateral, it does mean that they can replace high-interest, unsecured debt with low-interest secured debt.

This has the downside of meaning that they lose their house or other property if they fail to pay off the new loan, however, and it also requires that the borrower own valuable and unmortgaged property that is more valuable than their extant debt.

Still, consolidation is considered better than bankruptcy for one both financially and in terms of credit rating in the long term, since it shows that one is willing and able to pay off one’s debts through one means or another.

It also means that the borrower will be able to access credit cards and take out other loans while paying off their consolidated loan, although financial expediency becomes much more important when paying off a large consolidated loan.

If you need financial advice to help you with debt consolidation or retirement planning, please contact The Life of Luxury and we can refer a certied financial planner to help your needs.

A Key To Cancer Recovery is Emotional Support

According to the National Cancer Institute, approximately 238,000 men will be diagnosed with new cases of prostate cancer this year. Prostate cancer is leading incidence in the U.S. of this terrible disease.

Second on the list is breast cancer, which will effect greater than 234,580 women and men. The daily batle against cancer is an enormous one, as about 13.7 million Americans are currently living with cancer or have a history of cancer.

So whether you have a loved one, friend or co-worker dealing with cancer, just as important as the medical treatment they undergo is the emotional support they receive.

Dr. Niki Barr is pioneering cancer psychotherapist and was quoted, “Friends, family, co-workers – they can all play an important role in helping a cancer patient’s recovery simply by providing emotional support.”

Once someone is diagnosed with cancer, it’s critical they receive social support to help them deal with the disease and let them know they are not alone. In a National Institutes of Health report, it’s been proven that social support such as emotional support, does positively influence health outcomes.

Barr continues, “Even if you’re not among the person’s closest friends or family, you can help far more than you imagine simply by being encouraging and supportive.”

During her career, Barr has learned from her patients there are several commonon things that consistently do benefit them:

• Make your offer of help specific. “Call me if you need anything at all,” puts the burden on your loved one – who already carries a tremendous burden! Instead, you might offer to make dinner for her family on Wednesday night and ask what meal everyone enjoys. Or volunteer to drive him to his doctor appointment on Monday afternoon. This makes it easy for your friend to politely accept or decline your offer, and it ensures you provide the assistance you feel comfortable providing.

• Sometimes saying nothing at all says everything. If your friend or loved one wants to talk about her treatments, complain about his situation, or not talk at all, being a good listener or simply a quiet presence speaks volumes. When a person complains, many of us jump to “help” by suggesting solutions. That’s likely not what your friend or loved one is looking for. As my patients have said time and time again, sometimes they just want to get it all off their chest. An empathetic listener is all the help they need.

• If you’re not sure what to say, err on the side of being positive. Don’t say what you don’t know – for instance, you don’t know that everything is going to be just fine. But if you admire your loved one’s strength or sense of humor, if your friend’s attitude inspires you, tell them so. We all benefit from hearing a sincere compliment.

• Not sure what to talk about? Follow his lead. Some days, my patients want to talk only about their illness, the treatment they’re undergoing, and how they feel. Other days, they want to talk about anything BUT cancer. We all have days when we’re immersed in our own lives and other days when we want to be distracted – or to just feel normal.

According to Barr, “When a person who’s going through what may be the most difficult, stressful event of their lives knows that you care, it makes a difference. If you’re truly at a loss for words, it never hurts to simply say, I’m thinking about you.”

Niki Barr, Ph.D. founded a pioneering psychotherapy practice that’s devoted to helping cancer patients in all the various stages of the disease.

She also works with their family members, caregivers and friends. Barr adds, “I remind my patients often to refuse to listen to cancer ‘horror stories,’ so please, don’t tell those!”
