Year-Round Socks with a Sockscription by Blacksocks

Blacksocks - Men's socks subscription
Blacksocks

Men don’t often think about their socks. Most incorrectly match their sock color to their shoes, but socks need to match the pant color.

To help with choosing and buying men’s socks, consider a year long supply via a sockscription from Blacksocks.

Whether they are for your husband, grandfather, son, fiance, or a male friend – a sock subscription from Blacksocks is an ideal gift anytime of the year.

The Blacksocks program is simple. Choose the socks online, then decide out how often you want them sent to him. He can have calf, knee, athletic, wool or cashmere silk socks – all high quality, manufactured in Italy – conveniently delivered to his doorstep in regular intervals.

The man’s sock drawer replenishes itself throughout the year, and he never has to worry about shopping, sorting, or searching for socks again. Consumers can also choose any quantity they prefer.

In 2010, Blacksocks introduced three new colors: grey, navy and red. Blacksocks has over 50,000 subscribers in over 75 countries.

Having sold its millionth pair of socks in 2008, Blacksocks recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, counts former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz among its loyal customers, and best of all, is now available in North America. The innovative “sockscription” service also carries fine undershirts, a line of boxer shorts and briefs, and travel shave kits, all available via online subscription.

“The target Blacksocks demographic is any man who’s looked down to find his toe yawning out of a hole in his sock,” said Blacksocks president and founder Samy Liechti. “This Father’s Day, pamper your papa’s feet with socks made using the highest quality yarns that pill less and are more durable – he’ll thank you for it.”

The average men’s socks subscription costs only $89 a year. Shipping and taxes are also included with all prices.

Lupetta Scarves – Endangered Luxury

luxury Giraffa Lurex wrap - Lupetta by Greta Bonvini
Giraffa Lurex wrap – Lupetta

Fashion designer Greta Bonvini truly has a creative drive and passion to bring endangered luxury back from the brink.

Bonvini was born in Italy to a family of Milanese artists. Before launching Lupetta, she was an art director and graphic designer at an international advertising agency in Milan. With a desire to sketch textile designs rather than creating visuals for advertisings, Bonvini began envisioning her own brand.

When I asked Greta how did her vision first begin, she replied,
“I began dreaming about creating my own product, and it took a few years before I could quit all my previous commitments and begin a new endeavor. It happened in 2007, when I was already living for some years in the US. The longing for my country, its beauty and aesthetic, was the spark from which Lupetta was born. Soon enough I found myself working with the renowned Italian artisans to produce my vision.”

When you first meet Greta, you quickly realize her strong passion for her craft. I asked how she describes herself and she said,
“Sparkling creative energy. Visually orientated, I can generate ideas from any little detail I notice. Fast-paced, detail-oriented, high standards, striving for perfection. Multi-faceted, and able to take on many different roles at once. Idealist, ingenuous. Loving and aspiring to beauty and refinement. An artist rather than a business mind. Reserved, not very sociable.”

Fashioned in Italy by the time-honored artisans in Como—utilizing only high quality materials and state-of-the art weaving techniques—the Lupetta collection of wraps and scarves seems to embrace the Slow Fashion philosophy.

Bonvini takes Slow Fashion even further by featuring elegant motifs that go far beyond simple seasonal trends. They simply transcend time. Each scarf from the luxury Lupetta collection is intended to be worn and treasured season after season.

It’s evident that the designer takes her inspiration from the natural world. But Bonvini creatively takes her fashion views one step further and pushes Mother Nature forward by interpreting her narrative in unexpected ways.

Pictured above, Lupetta’s Giraffa wrap is a strikingly gorgeous, lighter-than-air wrap that combines a sophisticated motif with exceptionally high quality. Giraffa marries two fine layers of cashmere/silk with gold Lurex, resulting in a wrap that’s as soft as swan’s down with a glittery, gossamer-like finish.

Shown below, Savana is Lupetta’s signature motif, a stylish piece featuring a timeless animal print. Woven using cashmere and silk, Savana boasts a two-dimensional feel and lustrous sheen in tonal shades that convey an air of effortless sophistication.

Stemming from her belief that “animal prints are the flowers of the 21st century,” Bonvini offers her style-savvy clients unique designs that transcend the typical—and ubiquitous—luxury brand monogram. Lupetta creations are designed for the confident individual who eschews logos in favor of pieces that convey a more personal sense of style.

When asked what is the main inspiration for her fashion designs, Greta answered,
“One of my initial inspiration was the world of classical ballet, a world of pure light, with its glittering costumes and its many delicate details. From this inspiration I created my ethereal cashmere wraps with gold Lurex, envisioned to cover the bare shoulders of ballerinas off stage.”

She continues, “Inspired by the beautiful geometries of nature, I named my collection ‘Living Geometries’. I enjoy animal prints because they have an aesthetic element, which with the right eye can be translated into elegant and sophisticated motifs. As a designer, I aim at making women more sophisticated and beautiful, rather than flaunting their sex-appeal.”

I asked Greta what she considers to be her most rewarding professional accomplishment to date. She replied,
“I took my previous career and my talent to another level, building a luxury brand and a beautiful collection of products that has been already acknowledged and praised by many professionals from the fashion world. Moreover, unparalleled artists and celebrities such as legendary ballerina Natalia Makarova and prima ballerina Diana Vishneva love and wear Lupetta.”

Top 7 Unique Wedding Registry Websites

Wedding registry

A bridal registry is an important service for soon-to-be married couples.

A bridal or wedding registry that is provided by either a website or retail store helps engaged couples by communicating their particular gift preferences to wedding guests.

Newly wedded couples only need so much china and probably wouldn’t want more than one food processor, which is why gift registries were invented.

As with so many other things, however, today’s wedding registries have evolved with the Internet. Couples can now pour over their computer screens to select desired gifts, rather than roaming through multiple stores.

Online bridal registries also allow couples to make more considered decisions and, perhaps, more unique choices. Forget toasters and linens, modern couples want gift cards, houses and an opportunity to help make our world a better place.

Read on for the most unique wedding registry websites now available, and how they’re changing our gift-giving ways.

1. Honeymoon Registry
Prince William and Duchess Katherine postponed their honeymoon, perhaps because they spent all that money on the wedding, but you shouldn’t have to. As with Card Avenue, HoneyFund.com allows you to ask for money without really asking for money. The site allows you to request cash for everything from airfare to a special breakfast.

2. Home Savings Registry
You’ll never lay an egg with HatchMyHouse.com. The cash registry allows couples to put money towards a future home or perhaps just furniture and home improvements.

3. Gift Card Registry
Asking directly for money can be extremely uncomfortable and is frowned upon by Dear Abby and Emily Post. Happily, there’s a new way around this delicate situation. CardAvenue.com allows couples to register for gift cards from select stores and let friends know about their choices via email. It’s as simple as 1-2-3 and doesn’t require a purchase or setup and transaction fees. Card Avenue also offers guests a resource for buying fully-priced or discount gift cards.

4. Donation Registries
More modern couples are shunning actual gifts and asking friends and family to donate to their favorite charities. Through the I DO Foundation, guests can donate directly to a couple’s chosen charitable cause via a secure system. Charities are grouped into six focus areas including health, environment, social justice, community development, education and children, youth and families.

5. Lingerie Registry
If there ever was a gift designed for the groom, this is it. BedroomIsBoutique.com (pronounced “bedroom eyes boutique”) carries trendy and classic “Just Married” pieces suitable for brides of every age and style. Brides (and grooms) can register online, but they’ll have to tell their friends as there’s no email-notification function on the site.

6. Wine Registry
Create a wish list at the popular WineEnthusiast.com and fill it with everything from stemware, corkscrews and accessories to selections from the The Wine Enthusiast Catalog’s wine cellars. Most items are available gift wrapped. Wine Enthusiast also offers a toll-free number to assist gift givers.

7. Universal Registry
Why bother with multiple bridal registries when you can add all your favorite items from any store in the world to one massive list. MyRegistry.com also provides smartphone apps that allow couples to scan products for the best prices.
