Oversized sunglasses turned up in both spring and fall 2008 runway shows–they’ve been popular for several seasons now, as an alternative to aviators.

But how to make your retro-socialite/fashion editrix shades look new for 2008? Try squared-off frames – the thick plastic recalls the ’70s, but the cool gray tones speak directly to the millennial crowd.

Another of the season’s signatures may best be defined by what you don’t see: The obligatory bling is decidedly more low-key, with minimal logos, metal inserts, or (on Giorgio Armani shades) the lightest touch of Swarovski crystals.
