Luxury Swiss Horological Smartwatch Collection

Frederique Constant and Alpina are scheduled to introduce over 10 different Horological Smartwatch models during 2015. Luxury watch styles will be available for both ladies and gentlemen.

MMT (Manufacture Modules Technologies Sàrl) is a new Swiss joint venture that was created by Fullpower Technologies, Inc. of Silicon Valley plus the owners of the Frederique Constant Group. The MMT mission is to introduce the exciting MotionX-365® Horological Smartwatch Open Platform to the powerful Swiss watch industry.

Initially, the MMT partners consist of Frederique Constant who is the Geneva based luxury watch manufacturer of classical watches. Also joining the partnership is Alpina, who is popular Swiss sports watch manufacturer that was first founded way back in 1883.

The new Swiss Horological Smartwatch collection is powered by MotionX® which allows bi-directional communication with both iPhone and Android apps. As a result, the Swiss Horological Smartwatch synchronizes automatically with applications on Apple and Android smartphones. The Swiss Horological Smartwatch now combines the features and functionality of the MotionX® technology platform with a luxury timepiece.

The MotionX patented sensor-fusion engine tracks activity and specific sleep patterns with exceptionally high accuracy. Activity and sleep information is presented in real-time on the Swiss Horological Smartwatch using beautiful traditional analog dials. There isn’t a digital screen, but the gorgeous, laser cut hands on the watch dial display information in analog form. The end result is very important here as studies have shown that better sleep and a more active lifestyle produce effective, positive behavioral changes.

The basis of the new Swiss Horological Smartwatches is based on tracking and analyzing more than 100 million nights of sleep, and years of research and development on the biomechanics of natural human motion.

The first Swiss Horological Smartwatch will offer a wide range of cutting edge functionality including:
– MotionX® activity tracking
– Always-on time & date
– Sleeptracker® sleep monitoring
– Get-Active alerts
– Sleep cycle alarms
– Adaptive coaching
– MotionX® cloud backup and restore
– 2+ years battery life

Philippe Kahn is both founder and CEO of Fullpower and was quoted, “We looked for innovative partners in the Swiss watch industry to collaborate with. Peter’s efforts to develop his own high caliber product were unprecedented, so we immediately clicked and went to work to help reinvent the Swiss watch industry.”

Frederique Constant is well respected as a family owned watch manufacturer, headquartered in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland. The luxury watch company develops, manufactures and assembles in-house calibers, in 18 different versions since they began in 2004.

New Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph Watch by Alpina

At the recently completed BASELWORLD 2015 show in Switzerland, SWISS sport watch maker Alpina announced the new Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph watch.

Alpina was founded way back in 1883, and has been a pioneer of the Swiss watchmaking industry for over 130 years. As a premier designer and manufacturer of both wristwatches and pocket-watches, Alpina announced the luxury brand’s first chronograph that developed and produced in-house – the Calibre AL-760. The design utilizes the AL-710 rotor calibre with a balance frequency of 4 Hertz, centre seconds, in addition to a date hand at the 6 o’clock position.

The pressing action of the new Calibre AL-760 is very smooth, as well as both the stopping and resetting operations. Another feature is the column wheel that rotates on bearings that controls the three start, stop and reset functions. The winding rotor also operates in both directions.

The key part in all chronographs is the clutch. Repeating pressing of the start/stop push-piece causes slight pivoting of the clutch lever. The rotations of the chronograph hand are “recorded” by the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

In 1938, when the iconic “Alpina 4” sports watch was introduced, the figure “4” represented four unique characteristics at the same time:
1) – Antimagnetic
2) – Water-resistant “Geneva” case
3) – Incabloc shock protection, and
4) – Use of non-rusting stainless steel for the highly robust case.

The new Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph luxury watch by Alpina features a sporty and elegant stainless steel case. There is a screw-down winding and setting crown, plus a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that measures 45 millimetres in diameter.

You will find a counter at the 3 o’clock position that adds cumulative times up to 30 minutes. At 9 o’clock, the permanent-seconds hand rotates normally. The Super-LumiNova-highlighted dial from Alpina showcases the date hand at the 6 o’clock position. Lastly, the watch hands are luminous at night.

The Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph watch can withstand water pressure of up to 10 atmospheres, which is similar to a diving depth of 100 metres. The watch’s crown and push-piece are placed in in a straight line, despite the modular construction. of the calibre AL-760.

The Alpiner 4 Flyback Chronograph wristwatch by Alpina comes in either a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap.

New Admiral Watch Collection by Ateliers deMonaco

Located in Monaco, Ateliers deMonaco is a highly respected luxury watch brand. 2015 marks an important milestone for the small production, watch company, as they begin manufacturing their own in-house flyback chronograph movements.

The new in-house movements are the foundation for the new Admiral watch collection announced by Ateliers deMonaco. You will be able to view the new Watch collection at this week’s Baselworld Fair in Switzerland.

Founded in 2008, Ateliers deMonaco enables its next generation watchmakers to design and then create luxury timepieces and made of high quality. They strive to use the latest innovation and the best materials available.

The Admiral Chronograph is a limited edition, luxury watch collection of only 88 pieces of each type: either 18Kt white gold or 18Kt rose gold.

The term “Admiratus Admiratorum” which translates to “the most admired of the admired” was given during the reign of the Norman ruler Roger II (1095–1154) to his top naval commander – George of Antioch.

The patented manufacture flyback chronograph by Ateliers deMonaco measures a succession of elapsed times as well as eliminates many superfluous repetitive operations. As an example, in standard chronograph watches from other luxury brands, buttons have to be pushed three time in a row to to measure successive intervals. The first press stops the chronograph, the second to reset it to zero, and the third press starts it once again.

The creativity of the flyback function, is just a single press of the flyback” button not only stops timing the first interval, but will also reset the hand to zero. The chronograph hand starts once again as soon as button is released. That is true engineering!

Clearly the advantage of this type of mechanism is it utilizes a multi function Flyback Hammer. The Flyback Hammer is programmed to disengage the watch’s chronograph clutch wheel. Next it will engage the brake, then lastly turn both the chronograph second and minute wheel.

The admiral watch is still as popular today as ever. Pilots appreciate its accuracy and stylish looks. It’s also widely used in both racing and navigation.

Breguet Acquires Two Antique Timepieces at Recent Christie’s Auction

Last week at a Christie’s auction in Geneva – Switzerland, Breguet President and CEO of Breguet – Marc A. Hayek, purchased two historic gold pocket watches. One of the two watches was a rare quarter repeating watch that’s equipped with the first free escapement with natural lift ever made by Breguet (N° 1135).

The total purchase price for both luxury watches – Breguet N° 1576 and N° 1135 was 519’000 Swiss francs.

Here’s a brief description of each of the Breguet watches:

Breguet N° 1135: (photo above)
« Petite montre à répétition des quarts, échappement libre à levées naturelles ».
A unique and historically important 20K gold openface quarter repeating watch with free escapement with natural lift.
Signed Breguet, sold on 13 January 1806 to Monsieur Le Duc de l’Infantado for the sum of 4’200 Francs.

Breguet N° 1576:
« Montre à Souscription de taille moyenne »
A fine and rare 18K gold « souscription » watch
Signed Breguet et fils, circa 1805

During the French Revolution in 1794, Abraham-Louis Breguet introduced a new model of timepieces equipped with a special movement of great simplicity. The 1576 waas sold on September 8th, 1809 to Mr. Moreau, Breguet’s agent in St. Petersburg. This Breguet watch has simple and elegant design, plus utilizes a gold cuvette. Approximately 700 watches were made with either gold or silver cases.

The No. 1135 timepiece is an important find from both a historical and technical standpoint. The Brugeut 1135 watch did not require oil on the impulse surfaces. Breguet used this design to solve the issue of a free escapement with natural lift. The luxury watch maker made just thirty watches and clocks that included this unique system. Future production halted because of the high cost, development effort and production time. The No. 1135 was sold back in 1806 to Pedro Alcantara de Toledo y Salm Salm (1768-1841), who was the Duke of Infantado.
