A bottle of Dom. Romane Conti 1997 can set you back about $1,540 and is considered the world’s most expensive wine.
The Dom. Romane Conti is a French red Burgundy and smells of berries, spices and leather. It is dark in color, and teases drinkers with the taste of soy sauce, flowers and licorice.
The wine’s aroma is rich and penetrating without being overly profound. Over the years, the Romane Conti is a rare wine that has found its niche for fine wine connoisseurs.
A bottle Dom. Romane Conti 1997 runs over fifteen hundred dollars a bottle. You can’t deny a fantastic vintage and Romane Conti consistantly see prices around the thousand dollar mark no matter what the vintage.
As a comparison, in the mid 1980′s, billionaire Malcolm Forbes paid around $155,000 at an auction for a bottle of wine. The wine bottle was believed to be from Thomas Jefferson’s own personal collection and dated back to 1787.
Sadly the bottle was placed on display under strong lights and at the wrong angle. These unruly conditions eventually caused the wine cork to fall into the bottle. The wine quickly lost all of its value and was thrown away.

Interesting. I haven’t heard of this wine before. I’m always a bit skeptical of very high-priced wines though. Besides having the name and the status, is the wine itself worthy of such a price? I suppose that, for those who are buying it, this isn’t a concern.
