Describing the five most dangerous animals to hunt on foot, the term “Big Five” was coined by African big game hunters.

The term “Big Five” is still used in African wildlife safaris, and includes: the lion, the elephant, the leopard, the Cape buffalo and the rhinoceros.

Similar to its relationship to African wildlife, travelers may not know there is also a “Big Five” of Arctic wildlife.
