This fall, Cabo San Lucas will host Sunset Fest Cabo, the ultimate smooth rock festival celebrating yacht rock’s golden era. Nearly a century after Chaplin honeymooned at this historic hotel in 1936, the Metropole is paying tribute to his legacy with a captivating exhibition of memorabilia from one of the world’s largest private Charlie Chaplin collections.

The exhibit is truly a cinematic homecoming, titled “Chaplin in Hanoi: A Legendary Return,” is housed within the hotel’s heritage wing and showcases an exclusive selection of rare artifacts, photographs, letters, personal items, original film posters, and props spanning Chaplin’s iconic career.

Tupac Shakur’s brother, Mopreme Shakur, has joined the Vincent Van Gogh biopic, as Executive Producer.  Shakur will also produce songs for the movie soundtrack and perform on the album.

Mopreme Shakur, is a billboard chart topping, multi-platinum, recording artist with a vast array of musical accomplishments under his belt.  He was a member of Tupac’s infamous rap group “Thug Life.”  Mopreme’s highly anticipated autobiography will be released later this year.

The “Van Gogh” film partnership with Tupac’s family is quite fitting because Tupac loved Vincent Van Gogh and was inspired by him from an early age.

Tupac’s favorite song was Don McClean’s “Vincent” (Starry, Starry, Night).  Shakur’s mother Afeni played the song “Vincent” on repeat, while Tupac was on his death bed, to give him musical comfort after he was shot in 1996.  As a child, Tupac choreographed a dance performance in school to the song “Vincent.”  As an adult, Tupac wrote a poem dedicated to Vincent, which expresses the connection he felt with Van Gogh.

After Tupac’s passing, his mother Afeni honored him by having a painting made of Tupac in the style of Van Gogh’s self portrait.  This painting was used on the album of his posthumous release, “R U Still Down?  Remember Me.”

Tupac’s mother Afeni, founded the Tupac Shakur Foundation in honor of her son, to spread healing through art for youth from disadvantaged communities.

Inspired by the Death Star legacy

Kross Studio took up the challenge of the central tourbillon. Develop a mechanical complication honoring the prominent Death Star. For example, it is featured in a 45 mm black DLC coated grade 5 titanium case. Continuing, the captivating Death Star-inspired Tourbillon cage makes one revolution per minute. On the surface of the Death Star-inspired Tourbillon, a green superlaser cannon stands reminiscent of the space station’s kyber crystal enabled power.

The watch itself tells us a great story of passion, craftsmanship and advanced technology. Features include the house-developed manual-winding mechanical movement that delivers a robust 5-day power reserve. Plus, the hands have been affixed to a peripheral display that orbits 360 degrees around the tourbillon. A traditional crown system has been replaced by an ingenious, inset push-button system.

Kross Studio developed a D-ring shaped crown on the case back for winding the watch. It is out of sight to help maintain the timepiece’s sleek, space-age styling. These clean lines are also preserved by cleverly hiding quick-release buttons on the underside of the case. This practical feature will doubtless be welcomed by collectors. As a result, it allows a quick change of the straps from the included calfskin leather strap to either of the two other included rubber straps.

An eminent design object with an immersive visual experience

The powerful and precious nature of the kyber crystals in the Star Wars galaxy, required them to be stored in armored crates for transport. Faithful to the film storytelling, Kross Studio conceived an official reproduction of those containers, made of wood and aluminum.

More than 700 parts were necessary to produce each container. It’s scaled to half the original film dimensions of 3.94 feet long (1.20 meters). Fully hand-assembled and hand-painted, the containers embody the iconic saga story down to the smallest detail. Every aspect of these substantial art objects, like fine sculptures, have been thoroughly conceptualized and executed. The details take the viewer into the Star Wars galaxy. As an example, the backlit manifest panel inscribed in Aurebesh script – one of the most widely used alphabets in the Star Wars galaxy.

Celebrate in our own galaxy

Star Wars iconography is subtly inserted to sublimate the whole. Thus, the esthetic Galactic Empire emblem and the push-button feature an engraving in Aurebesh script. Moreover, the hour hand takes the shape of an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer. While the minute hand appears as a Super-Class Star Destroyer. It carries no less than 38,000 stormtroopers. At last, the fixed hours wheel, filled with white superluminova “blue emission”, is inspired by the lighting halls embedded in the Imperial vessels.

This Star Wars Day collection is extremely rare. Remember, only 10 of these Death Star Collector Sets will ever be produced. But the launch is just the first of more exciting Star Wars-inspired products to come from Kross Studio. So, when you say Florida has fun, sexy, excitement and celebrities, the first thing that comes to mind is Miami right?!?! NOPE! Guess again.

Oh yes, not tables … there are cabanas inside, super chic. Most walk-ins are turned away. It’s like they are protecting their snobs.

So is it worth it to spend over $500.00 just to say I saw Channing Tatum and Bella Hadid dance the night away? Probably not. I leave it up to you. The place is a wonder, it screams rich and elegance.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe was the only place to be over the weekend. “Docked at Hard Rock” took place both Friday and Saturday nights and featured the amazing “Art Car” Christina.

Event guests at the Docked at Hard Rock celebration on Friday, Nov. 1, were treated to nationally acclaimed DJ Justin Martin. Based in San Francisco, the DJ/producer first entered the electronic music scene in 2003. He helped develop Dirtybird Records, during a time he also booked various international festivals.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, Zach Sciacca thrilled the large crowd. He’s better known as DJ Z-Trip. The DJ/producer is from Phoenix, Arizona. Like Justine Martin, he performed atop the Christina art car. Z-Trip was awarded “America’s Best DJ” in 2009. He is still as popular today and a pioneer of the mashup movement. In addition, LL Cool J, Public Enemy and Dan the Automator are a few of the respected artists Z-Trip has worked with.

The exclusive “Docked at Hard Rock” event became a huge pool-side party, featuring the fun vibe of live music, art, plus several charity functions. The appearance of Christina was the yacht’s first venture on private property for the public.

In addition to the acclaimed DJs, the crowd was treated to fire spinners, Psychedelic Sailors dancing atop the boat, Boots ‘n Cats Gogos, a 104-degree giant hot tub, plus special guests. The party kicked off both nights at 6 p.m. Later that night, the party moved indoors to the Vinyl Nightclub and Center Bar.

Jordan Laub is the event promoter and owner of VELUFUR and was quoted, “Christina’s unique story sets the tone and provided the theme to commemorate an authentic local institution in a meaningful way. Reflecting Lake Tahoe’s status as an environmental leader and Hard Rock’s corporate principles to that end, we’ll also be raising funds for organizations including The Tahoe Fund and Artech dedicated to promoting sustainability and cultural enhancement.”

Christina is a 65-foot long and 35,000 pound yacht. For years, it could be seen traveling across world famous Lake Tahoe. For those who have attended Burning Man, you will remember seeing the Christina art car traversing the Playa for almost a decade. Christina was designated “Queen of Black Rock” on three occasions. She held up to 140 passengers each trip around the Nevada desert floor.

Flipper “Flipper” Manchester is a South Lake Tahoe construction company owner and the current owner of the art car Christina. The yacht was dry-docked at the historic Tahoe Keys Marina and Flipper has hired to demolish it. But he had an innovative idea to save it and convert the yacht to an art car. The boat’s massive hull was painted with the turquoise waves of Lake Tahoe. For years, it was a popular attraction on the Black Rock Desert Playa in northwest Nevada.

To make its grand appearance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe was no simple feat. In mid October, Christina was trucked along a route from Gerlach along State Route 447 to Interstate 80, onto US-395 to US-50. The route was chosen to fit under overpasses and stay away from more congested routes. Finally, once the Art Car” Christina arrived in South Lake Tahoe, she was reassembled.

Party guests could also rent comfortable daybeds, cabanas and reserved tables. Plus, bottle service was also available to purchase.

Charles Manchester was asked by Lake Tahoe Action magazine:
How did the “Christening of Christina” and “Docked at the Hard Rock” celebration come about?
“Executives of the Hard Rock who’ve attended Burning Man and heard her story approached me with the concept to bring her home. They saw the Christina as a vehicle to continue what goes on in the Playa for Burners throughout Northern California, Nevada and beyond”

He continued, “They recognized that it’s more than a party – how it moves people, and determined a way to have a good time, promote art and benefit local non-profits. The entire concept resonated with me. Everybody who knows her and local burners from Tahoe/Reno are all going to be there. I’m excited that the boat will be here and am looking forward to hanging out with my friends and having fun.”

Then Charles was asked, What is the future hold for the Christina?
“I planned to take her back down to Burning Man, and she might be going to other events like Coachella Valley and Las Vegas Electric Daisy. I have some folks in Seattle asking me to bring her up there to keep the vibe alive. From a transport standpoint, we’re installing metal plates enabling us to pull her apart and reassemble fast. Making it tear-down and reassemble is fast for transport. And yes, I’d do it all again.”

Renowned “Cosmic X” artist Jack Armstrong, has just completed a painting to replace the $13M “Steve McQueen Le Mans” painting stolen in Dallas last year. The new one is titled, Cosmic ‘X’ Paradigm and is now available for sale at $110 million.

The news of the theft was first published in May 2018 by The Hollywood Times – Iconic $13M Painting ‘Steve McQueen Le Mans’ Stolen In Dallas and shocked the art industry. While on loan prior to a celebrity exhibition in New York City, the amazing painting has reported to be stolen from a private home in Texas. To date, this crime still remains unsolved.

Jack Armstrong created it to honor Steve McQueen’s popular 1971 film Le Mans. The legendary film star was known for performing his own stunt driving in the movie.

Armstrong said that McQueen’s performance in both Bullitt & Le Mans inspired the painting. Jack first met Steve McQueen in 1977 at Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood, California. It’s the oldest restaurant in Hollywood and celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Like many Hollywood celebrities, Musso Franks was a favorite eating establishment of McQueen.

Jack recounts, “I spent over an hour with Steve & told him I planned to one day create the most expensive motorcycle & most valuable art car in the world. He said Kid, New York City is the right place for you to be seen. Keep in touch with me. If they turn out great, I might be interested in them myself. Right after meeting Steve, I planned my NYC move thanks to his encouragement.”

Widely known as “The King of Cool“, Steve McQueen personally encouraged Armstrong’s journey to New York City, where he later was associated with famous artists Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat.

Jack said, “Talking to the biggest movie star in the world seemed completely ‘cosmic’ for an art kid born in Kansas and grew up in Omaha. My ‘Steve McQueen Le Mans’ painting was created in my ‘Cosmic X’ style of art. It’s the only piece of mine dedicated to a Hollywood personality.”

He was asked about the stunning theft of the McQueen painting last year. Jack comments, “Art at the Cosmic X level has a universal appeal. For the person that desires it above anything else, if they cannot afford it, theft is a result. I do not think the painting will be recovered as 7 other examples of my works have been taken & never found. Perhaps, I will simply create 7 new pieces some day so there will be 100 Cosmic X originals, once again.”

As a result, to continue honoring Steve McQueen, Jack decided to replace the original $13M “Steve McQueen Le Mans” painting.

“The painting is a direct inspiration from my universal Cosmic ‘X’ book series. It includes a metaphysical cosmic realization in the art that details humanity’s future paradigm.” Cosmic ‘X’ Paradigm, the final Armstrong Cosmic ‘X’ masterpiece, is 24×36 acrylic on canvas. It is (1) of only 5 Cosmic X paintings now priced at $100M or above.”

In May of 2017, his “Untitled” painting set the record for most expensive painting ever sold at an auction by an American artist. The total Sotheby’s auction price including fees totaled $110.5 million. Purchased by Yusaku Maezawa, this billionaire is an avid art collector and online fashion mogul.
