1. Glassware choice increases the spirits’ aesthetics.

David Cid notes, “Great sipping rums have a story to tell. One that is best discovered by allowing the spirit to tell the story as it breathes and develops in the glass.”

He regards crystal glassware as being renowned for its elegance, due mostly to its plentitude of physical characteristics. Crystal glassware is the optimal choice for sipping spirits due to its unsurpassed clarity and ability to channel light – thus creating a visual experience that truly highlights the color and body of the beverage in hand. In addition, the thinness of the crystal allows for slight fluctuations in the temperature of the spirit depending on the external environment, which slightly affects the aroma and flavors to be perceived by the sipper.

2. Prefer your sipping rum on the rocks? Be mindful of your ice pairing.

For those who enjoy sipping on the rocks, the impact ice will have on the libation will depend on the ice cube, sphere or block’s density and size. Higher density ice equates to less air in the ice. A large cube of ice increases the total surface area of the ice, while reducing the amount of surface area in contact with the spirit. Notably, with spherical ice there is less surface area contact with the spirit. In both instances, the result is a chilling of the beverage, while minimizing dilution.

Additionally, it is important to remember that the minerality of the water used to form the ice can affect the flavor of the spirit. The less minerals in the water source will equate to less impact on the natural flavors of the spirit.

3. Want to maximize the overall sipping experience? Try the “water back” approach.

Serve a “water back”, or a glass of water, with a neatly poured spirit is as much tradition as it is good practice for sipping. Luxury spirits are meant to be sipped slowly, to savor all of their flavors, and over the holidays – pacing oneself is a must.

All spirits react to temperature – when cold, the alcohol will contract. When warm, the alcohol will expand, which affects how much aroma and flavor will be perceivable to the sipper. Room-temperature water is a preferred when attempting the “water back” approach.

4. Encourage your guests to try something new.

Undeniably, the best way to serve any spirit is to do so based on the preferences of the person being served. Know the preferences of your guests at a cocktail party supersedes everything.

0.25 parts Sugar syrup
1 part Freshly-pressed apple juice

Cruzan Crush (serves 4-6 people)
Recipe By Teddy Collins, Miami – Florida (photo above)
Ingredients:
4 parts Cruzan® Vanilla Rum
4 parts Cruzan® Aged Dark Rum
6 parts Pineapple Juice
3 parts Lemon Juice
3 parts Apricot Simple Syrup*
Fresh Mint and Thyme

Method:
– Combine lemon juice, apricot simple syrup and pineapple juice into a cocktail bucket or punch bowl.
– Lightly smack 10 mint leaves and drop into the bucket along with 2 stems of thyme and muddle softly.
– Add rums, crushed ice and stir. Garnish with fresh mint, thyme and 4-6 straws. Enjoy!

* Apricot Simple Syrup Instructions:
– Over medium heat, combine equal parts sugar and apricot juice. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Set aside and cool.

Cruzan LocoCoco (Serves 4-6 people)
Recipe By Tiffanie Barriere, Atlanta – Georgia
Ingredients:
8 parts Cruzan® Tropical Fruit Rum
8 parts Coconut Water
2 parts Pineapple Juice

Method:
– Combine all ingredients in a cocktail bucket or punch bowl and stir for 30 seconds with a swizzle stick.
– Fill bucket with fresh ice, stir once more and garnish with fresh pineapple, four straws, and enjoy!

Method:
* Shake all of the ingredients and strain into a coupe glass.
* Finish by garnishing with a makrut lime leaf.

Life in Paris
Ingredients:
* 750 parts BANKS 5 Island Rum
* 750 parts Extra Brut Champagne
* 375 parts Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
* 275 parts Chilled Mineral Water
* ½ part Absinthe
* Lemon Oleo-Sarrharum

Method:
* Combine everything but the Champagne in a bowl and stir in the oleo-saccharum until it dissolves.
* Chill before service.
* When ready to serve, fill a punchbowl with one large ice block, add Champagne, star anise pods, grapefruit, and lime wheels, edible flowers.
* Finally, garnish with lime wheel and a star anise pod.

As a bonus, we wanted to share another cocktail recipe. This one is made with Bacardi rum. For party guests who desire a little more kick in their favorite drink, Bacardi rum comes to the rescue. Bacardi 8 Años Rum helps create a classic cocktail that will appeal to your sophisticated Oscars party guests.

BACARDÍ 8 Años Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
* 2 parts BACARDÍ 8 Años Rum
* 2 dashes Angostura® Bitters
* 1 splash water
* ½ tsp sugar
* 1 orange peel

Method:
* In an Old-Fashioned glass, combine the sugar, water and Angostura Bitters with a bar spoon.
* Add half the BACARDÍ 8 Años along with 2-3 large ice cubes, stirring repeatedly.
* Pour in the second half of the rum and 2-3 more ice cubes, continuing to stir. Cut a piece of orange peel (about 5cm long); express the orange peel over the drink, releasing the citrus oils.
* Lastly, drop the peel into the drink to finish.

Method:

Ingredients:
1 1/2 parts Cruzan® Aged Light Rum
1 1/2 part Vanilla Simple Syrup
1/2 part Unsweetened Fresh Cranberry Juice
2 parts Sparkling Wine

Method:
– Combine all ingredients in a champagne flute and stir twice. Garnish with an orange peel cut in the shape of a heart.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 parts Laphroaig® Select Scotch Whisky
1/2 part Drambuie® Liqueur
1 part Bordeaux Red Wine
3 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Peel (for garnish)

Method:
– Add all ingredients together in a mixing glass and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass (served up). Garnish with a flamed orange twist.

Ingredients:
1¼ parts Knob Creek® Bourbon
2 parts Fresh Squeezed Ruby Grapefruit Juice
¾ part Domaine de Canton® Ginger Liqueur

Lime Wedge, stuffed with Candied Ginger

Method:
– Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add Ice and shake. Strain over ice in a rocks glass. Squeeze the lime wedge to disperse the candied ginger into the drink.

Ingredients:
– 2 parts Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
– 2 parts Coconut Water
– 1 teaspoon Honey Syrup*
– Squeeze of Half Fresh Lime
– 6 dashes of Angostura® Bitters
– Nutmeg

Method: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake well. Pour into a rocks or tiki glass over fresh crushed ice. Garnish with nutmeg.

*Honey Syrup: Combine equal parts honey and warm water. Shake/Stir to dissolve.

Cruzan® Dark as Night
Ingredients:
– 1 part Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
– 1/4 part Falernum Syrup
– 1/2 part Fresh Lime Juice
– 6 parts Cider

Method: Combine Black Strap, falernum syrup and fresh lime juice in a mixing glass. Pour cider into a rocks glass and slowly float mixture over top of the cider. Finish with fresh grated nutmeg and a lime or orange peel.

2 parts Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
2 parts Coconut Water
1 teaspoon Honey Syrup*
Squeeze of Half Fresh Lime
6 dashes of Angostura® Bitters
Nutmeg
Method: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake well. Pour into a rocks or tiki glass over fresh crushed ice. Garnish with nutmeg.
*Honey Syrup: Combine equal parts honey and warm water. Shake/Stir to dissolve.

Cruzan® Black Diamond Swizzle
(Recipe by Jane Danger, NYC)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 parts Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
1/2 part Bitter Red Liqueur
3/4 part Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 part Simple Syrup
2 Fresh Strawberries

Method:
Muddle two strawberries in the bottom of a Belgian beer glass with the red bitter liqueur and fill with cracked or crushed ice. Then, in a cocktail shaker combine fresh lime juice and simple syrup. Whip and shake with no ice. Pour lime juice and cane mixture over ice, and fill again as needed. Gently float Cruzan Black Strap Rum on top. Garnish with berries and lime.

Ingredients:
2 parts Cruzan® Aged Light Rum
1 part D&D Shrubs & Syrups Co.® Spiced Pecan Orgeat
1/2 part Allspice Liqueur
3/4 part Fresh Lime Juice
5 dashes Angostura® Bitters

Method: In a cocktail shaker, combine Cruzan Aged Light Rum, spiced pecan orgeat, allspice liqueur, and fresh lime juice. Shake and strain into a Collins Glass over crushed ice. Top with bitters and garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.

Cruzan® Tropical Storm
Recipe by Teddy Collins, Miami
Ingredients:
2 parts Cruzan® Aged Dark Rum
1 part Fresh Mango Juice
1 part Fresh Lemon Juice
2 dashes Angostura® Bitters

Method: In a cocktail shaker, combine Cruzan Aged Dark Rum, fresh lemon juice and fresh mango juice. Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for 8 seconds. Immediately strain into an ice filled tiki mug. Top with 2 dashes of bitters and sprinkle a pinch of crushed black peppercorn, to taste. Garnish with a fresh mint spring and tiki umbrella skewered with a maraschino cherry and fresh mango slice. Finish with a straw and enjoy!

Today is not just Monday, July 11 but also National Mojito Day. So it’s time to celebrate with friends and family. Enjoy your summer with a refreshing mojito cocktail.

Drinking a cold cocktail on a hot day is such a treat. The classic mojito cocktail is made with the following ingredients – white rum, lime juice, cane sugar, soda water and of course mint.

Instead of serving up a standard mint mojito, be creative and experiment. An excellent choice is to use Cruzan Rum. Beat the heat with two, delicious cocktails – Cruzan Mango Mojito and Cruzan Coconut Mojito. Both of these cocktails are to die for and perfect for any social event.

The Cruzan Mango Mojito cocktail is made with fresh mango. It’s a perfect compliment to the bold and tropical flavor of Cruzan Mango Rum. The Cruzan Coconut Mojito uses Cruzan Aged Light Rum, as well as Cruzan Coconut Rum. Both rums are mixed with coconut and vanilla. The result is a unique and spectacular tasting cocktail.

Cruzan® Mango Mojito

Ingredients:
* 1 part Cruzan® Mango Rum
* 4 chunks of Fresh Mango
* Dash of Fresh Lime Juice
* Splash of Simple Syrup
* 4-6 Fresh Mint Leaves
* Club Soda

Method:
Combine muddle mint and mango chunks with simple syrup in a tall glass. Next, add lime juice, Cruzan® Mango Rum and ice. Then stir and top with club soda. Garnish with mint.

Cruzan® Coconut Mojito

Ingredients:
* 2 parts Cruzan® Aged Light
* 1 part Cruzan® Coconut Rum
* 8-10 Mint Leaves
* 2 Fresh Lme Wedges
* 1 tsp Sugar
* Coconut Soda (or Coconut Water)

Method:
Start by combining muddle mint, lime & sugar and top with both Rums & ice. Then shake 2 times to mix. Top off with Coconut Soda. Lastly, garnish with mint and a lime twist.

The Siam Daiquiri from Ari Taymor takes his favorite rum cocktail and adds his own personal touch. He includes simple, yet personal touch of Thai aromatics. The result is a bespoke drink to die for.

The Siam Daiquiri cocktail blends BACARDI Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron, which is a super-premium white rum from luxury spirit brand Bacardi. Added to the recipe is Kaffir lime juice plus aromatic simple syrup.

This refreshing cocktail is perfect anytime of the year, but particularly appealing as the weather heats up. It’s easy to make and tastes terrific. If you are hosting your own party, be sure to include it and your guests will appreciate the tasty offering.

We wanted to share the drink recipe for the Siam Daiquiri cocktail:

– 1 part BACARDÍ Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron
– 1/2 part Kaffir Lime Juice
– 1 tsp Aromatic simple syrup *

Method:
Mix ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker, shake vigorously and serve in a chilled coupe.

* Aromatic Simple Syrup:
– 1 cup water
– 3 Coriander seeds
– 12 Thai basil leaves
– 1/4 Sliced Jalapeño
– 1 cup Sugar
– 2 Kaffir Lime Leaves (if available)

Method: Bring to a boil, steep 15 minutes, strain and cool.
