Celebrate National Rum Day with Cruzan Rum

Today (August 16) is National Rum Day, so be sure to gather with friends and family and enjoy this day! Cruzan Rum is a delicious rum brand and perfect to mix and create great tasting cocktails.

Some people just love the taste of straight rum or on the rocks. Others enjoy creating incredible rum cocktails. Summer is still going strong so an ice-cold cocktail is perfect for your backyard BBQ, house party or social gathering at your favorite bar or nightclub.

Many top mixologists have been creative and putting their own, unique spin on a rum cocktail recipe. For example, Tiffanie Barriere (Atlanta, One Flew South) and Jane Danger (NYC, Cienfuegos) have whipped up recipes with the bold molasses flavors of Cruzan Black Strap with fresh ingredients like coconut water, strawberries, lime, and honey. Sounds awesome!

Fellow mixologists Christian Guillen (Dallas, The Standard Pour) and Teddy Collins (Miami, Radio Bar) have blended Cruzan aged light and dark expressions to create their locally inspired cocktails that are a huge hit with patrons.

Cruzan® Black Strap Belle
(Recipe by Tiffanie Barriere, Atlanta)
Ingredients:
2 parts Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
2 parts Coconut Water
1 teaspoon Honey Syrup*
Squeeze of Half Fresh Lime
6 dashes of Angostura® Bitters
Nutmeg
Method: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake well. Pour into a rocks or tiki glass over fresh crushed ice. Garnish with nutmeg.
*Honey Syrup: Combine equal parts honey and warm water. Shake/Stir to dissolve.

Cruzan® Black Diamond Swizzle
(Recipe by Jane Danger, NYC)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 parts Cruzan® Black Strap Rum
1/2 part Bitter Red Liqueur
3/4 part Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 part Simple Syrup
2 Fresh Strawberries

Method:
Muddle two strawberries in the bottom of a Belgian beer glass with the red bitter liqueur and fill with cracked or crushed ice. Then, in a cocktail shaker combine fresh lime juice and simple syrup. Whip and shake with no ice. Pour lime juice and cane mixture over ice, and fill again as needed. Gently float Cruzan Black Strap Rum on top. Garnish with berries and lime.

Cruzan® Hint of Spice
Recipe by Christian Guillén, Dallas
Ingredients:
2 parts Cruzan® Aged Light Rum
1 part D&D Shrubs & Syrups Co.® Spiced Pecan Orgeat
1/2 part Allspice Liqueur
3/4 part Fresh Lime Juice
5 dashes Angostura® Bitters

Method: In a cocktail shaker, combine Cruzan Aged Light Rum, spiced pecan orgeat, allspice liqueur, and fresh lime juice. Shake and strain into a Collins Glass over crushed ice. Top with bitters and garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.

Cruzan® Tropical Storm
Recipe by Teddy Collins, Miami
Ingredients:
2 parts Cruzan® Aged Dark Rum
1 part Fresh Mango Juice
1 part Fresh Lemon Juice
2 dashes Angostura® Bitters

Method: In a cocktail shaker, combine Cruzan Aged Dark Rum, fresh lemon juice and fresh mango juice. Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for 8 seconds. Immediately strain into an ice filled tiki mug. Top with 2 dashes of bitters and sprinkle a pinch of crushed black peppercorn, to taste. Garnish with a fresh mint spring and tiki umbrella skewered with a maraschino cherry and fresh mango slice. Finish with a straw and enjoy!
