Casinos on the Vegas Strip, Non-Stop Gaming Action

Las Vegas casino poker playing cards

For many people when they think about Las Vegas the first thing that comes to mind is the casinos. Say the Las Vegas Strip and the vivid image of bright lights and gaming tables gets even stronger for most people.

On the world famous Las Vegas Strip, you will find so many of the things which have come to represent Las Vegas, the hotels, the casinos and the resorts.

If you have come to play poker then this is the place to be and if you have come to stay in some of the largest hotels in the world then you’ll find them here.

In fact there’s an amazing fact about the luxury hotel in Las Vegas. 19 out the world’s 25 largest hotels can be found on the strip!

That’s a total of over 67,000 rooms, so there’s plenty of room for everyone, regardless of what style or theme you enjoy.

The first casino in Las Vegas was built on Highway 91 in 1931, however the first on the strip itself was the El Rancho Vegas which had 63 rooms and opened in 1941.

The El Rancho Vegas hotel was around for nearly 20 years until it was destroyed in a fire. The hotel’s legacy has lived on and helped spawn all the hotels there are today.

People could see the monetary benefits of opening a casino on the strip. Perhaps most notably Bugsy Siegel, who you may have heard of in reference to being an organized crime figure, became interested and opened a couple of resorts there.

After that, the Las Vegas casinos just kept on coming as did the world-class hotels and resorts.

Today Las Vegas has the highest concentration of casinos in the U.S. And with these casinos, come the many visitors who want to experience the excitement of Las Vegas, including the bright lights, entertainment and all the fun times to be by all.

Enjoying the French City of Marseilles

Marseille France

Next to Paris, Marseilles is the second largest city in France based on population. Marseilles has the largest port on the Mediterranean as well as being the financial center of the Provence-Alpes-Cote.

Even though Marseilles doesn’t have the immediate allure that fabulous Paris has, most visitors will fall in love with this great city.  You can spend hours just walking the many African markets, go to the cliffs falling into the blue sea, or visit Panier and the Corniche.

Marseilles has numerous sights for tourists who take the time and make an effort to really discover this French city.|

One stop to visit is the Vieux Port, or the old harbor. You can view fishermen selling the daily fish catch in an auction. In addition, if you land on the port in the evening, there’s a sight you will never forget – Notre Dame de la Garde.

The Notre Dame de la Garde is a large church that looks over Marseilles. In ancient times, the fishermen used to get their boats blessed here. As you tour the place today, you will discover a few boats remaining in the area.

The Cours Julien is a great place where you can rest and visit various book stores, a local playground, or even get a cup of French coffee.

The Boulevard Longchamp and Palais Longchamp are a castle and a walkway. The palace itself i not very large, but is definitely worth a visit.

Panier is an area near Borely park and is the oldest part of town. There you will find many old buildings, museums, monuments, and various exhibitions that are present throughout the year.

One place you should visit outside of Marseilles, is the Chateau d’If, a small island and was actually once a prison. It’s quite famous due to its association with the novel “The Count of Monte Cristo”. The Calanques are fjords which are spectacular, and have great views.

Marseilles is a beautiful place to visit, and absolutely has enough to keep its visitors busy with even if it is not as renowned or marketed as Paris.

Available Sundays through Thursdays for $999, the package includes classic hair styling and makeup application in the renowned Cristophe Salon, an elegantly designed, all-white bouquet and matching groom’s boutonniere, beautiful keepsakes and the Hollywood Glamour Photography Package.

Tuscan Romance
For a touch of Italian elegance, couples and guests can overlook the stunning views of a Tuscan landscape with a Mediterranean-blue lake and watch the Fountains of Bellagio soar to the sky at the moment of the long-awaited first kiss. Terrazza di Sogno, or The Terrace of Dreams, at Bellagio offers couples wanting the perfect outdoor wedding a chance to exchange vows on an Italian balcony with toasted marble flooring and walls tinted a warm golden patina, creating an unrivaled romantic locale.

To make sure the day runs flawlessly, a professional wedding coordinator is appointed to each couple to assist in making arrangements including dinner reservations at Bellagio’s gourmet restaurants, guest room reservations for the wedding party and assistance with the wedding reception.

Duke Kahanamoku Beach – #3 Best Beach in U.S.

Duke Kahanamoku Beach - Oahu, Hawaii
Duke Kahanamoku Beach

On Oahu, Kahanamoku Beach is located in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Fort Derussy.

Although everyone has heard of Waikiki Beach, it’s actually a two-mile stretch of white sand on Oahu’s southern coast and is comprised of nine individually named beaches.

Kahanamoku Beach can be found on the north end, adjacent to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon.

Kahanamoku Beach was named after Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. He was a legendary figure in Hawaii, setting numerous world records in swimming and an Olympic swimmer Gold Medal winner.

But for Hawaiians, Kahanamoku’s larger contribution was his role in rejuvenating surfing in Hawaii, plus introducing surfing to the rest of the world. He is often called the “Father of Modern Surfing.”

Kahanamoku Beach offers nearly clear, ocean waters and a soft sandy ocean floor. Due to the beach being protected by an offshore reef, the ocean waves are minimal.

The sidewalk near the beach is wide and often busy with locals and visitors strolling along and taking in the fantastic Hawaiian views. It’s definitely one of the best family beaches in all of Oahu.

It was just announced that Kahanamoku Beach was rated the #3 Best Beach in the United States.

An annual survey is conducted by Florida International University professor Steven Leatherman, otherwise known as “Dr. Beach.”

Several of the rating criteria used in the survey includes water temperature, sand softness and wind/rip currents.

Regarding Kahanamoku Beach, Dr. Beach states, “A shallow offshore reef protects this beach from the big waves, making it a great swimming area for families with children.”

Here’s the complete list of top U.S. Beaches for 2011 (also includes Oahu’s Waimanalo Bay Beach Park)
1. Sarasota’s Siesta Beach, Florida
2 Coronado Beach, San Diego Calif.
3. Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii
4, Main Beach, East Hampton, N.Y
5. Cape Hatteras in North Carolina
6. St. George Island State Park, Florida Panhandle
7. Beachwalker Park, Kiawah Island, S.C.
8. Coast Guard Beach, Cape Cod, Mass.
9. Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, Oahu, Hawaii
10. Cape Florida State Park near Miami.

Sahara Hotel and Casino- Las Vegas
Sahara Hotel and Casino

Another iconic hotel has closed on the famous Las Vegas Strip – Sahara Hotel and Casino.

Last Monday, the Sahara Hotel and Casino closed its doors for good.

The Sahara will always be remembered as one of the Rat Pack’s favorite hangouts. In addition, the Sahara was the hotel Elvis Presley once stayed during his filming of the hit movie “Viva Las Vegas.”

In the past, as older casinos (e.g. Stardust, Boardwalk and Landmark) have been closed and demolished, new developments have taken their place with more glitz and glamor. The future of the Sahara site reminds a big question mark.

As the end neared, visitors to the Shara walked through the casino and bought up a variety of souvenirs at the gift shop and tried their luck gambling one last time.

Over the six decades the Sahara Hotel and Casino was in business, a long list of celebrities have either stayed their or performed.

The casino’s first performance was actually from Ray Bolger, the scarecrow from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The Beatles also stayed at the Sahara when they performed in Las Vegas.
