August is National Rum Month – Celebrate with Cruzan Rum

To help you celebrate National Rum Month, we want to share some delicious rum cocktail recipes. In preparation for the occasion, Cruzan has been working with top mixologists across the country to develop new cocktails. The partnership has incorporated some of our most popular flavors including Coconut, Vanilla and the newest Cruzan addition – Tropical Fruit.

Cruzan Crush (serves 4-6 people)
Recipe By Teddy Collins, Miami – Florida (photo above)
4 parts Cruzan® Vanilla Rum
4 parts Cruzan® Aged Dark Rum
6 parts Pineapple Juice
3 parts Lemon Juice
3 parts Apricot Simple Syrup*
Fresh Mint and Thyme

– Combine lemon juice, apricot simple syrup and pineapple juice into a cocktail bucket or punch bowl.
– Lightly smack 10 mint leaves and drop into the bucket along with 2 stems of thyme and muddle softly.
– Add rums, crushed ice and stir. Garnish with fresh mint, thyme and 4-6 straws. Enjoy!

* Apricot Simple Syrup Instructions:
– Over medium heat, combine equal parts sugar and apricot juice. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Set aside and cool.


Cruzan LocoCoco (Serves 4-6 people)
Recipe By Tiffanie Barriere, Atlanta – Georgia
8 parts Cruzan® Tropical Fruit Rum
8 parts Coconut Water
2 parts Pineapple Juice

– Combine all ingredients in a cocktail bucket or punch bowl and stir for 30 seconds with a swizzle stick.
– Fill bucket with fresh ice, stir once more and garnish with fresh pineapple, four straws, and enjoy!

Tanqueray No. TEN Frosé

* .75 oz Tanqueray No. TEN
* .75 Lemon Juice
* 1 oz Raspberry Syrup*
* 2 oz Rosé

Simply add all of the ingredients into a shaker that’s filled with ice and shake. Next, strain into a stemless wineglass over fresh crushed ice. Lastly, garnish with a fresh raspberry skewer and mint sprig. When done, this delicious Frosé cocktail looks as good as it tastes.

*Raspberry Syrup Preparation:
– 2 cups of Raspberries, 1 cup of sugar.
– Place both in a pot, and bring up heat for about 10 minutes.
– Strain the liquid, by pushing the raspberries down to extract the remaining juice

Let’s get the party started and show your patriotic side. Serve up red, white, and blue libations that will have you singing our national anthem all night long. Delicious cocktails are always a big hit at any social gathering. We want to share 3 cocktail recipes that your friends and family will definitely enjoy.


Miss American Berry Pie
– A patriotic libation unlike any other… it’s enjoying your favorited mixed berry pie but in a glass! Made with California vodka, it’s a two-in-one take on America’s classic favorites.

2 parts Ménage à Trois Berry Vodka
½ part lemon juice
½ part elderflower liqueur
½ part raspberry/blackberry liqueur
2 Blueberries
2 Raspberries

Add all of the ingredients into a shaking tin and fill with a few ice cubes (3-4). Shake for about 10 seconds and dump ingredients into a doubled mini pie tin. Other option is in a rocks glass. Whip cream garnish optional, but suggested!


Red, White, and Blueberry
– Berry forward with a tequila kick, this “blue” margarita is perfection when cheers-ing with you friends on the Fourth.

2 parts Tres Agaves Blanco Tequila
1 part Tres Agaves Agave Nectar
12-15 blueberries
1 lime squeezed
1-2 parts filtered water
A couple sprigs of basil

Muddle blueberries and basil with Tres Agaves Tequila. Add remaining ingredients. Shake with ice and serve over fresh ice (Do not strain). Garnish with basil leaf float.


Patriotic State of Mind
– Cheers to Independence Day with America’s one and only native spirit, bourbon, with this simple and delicious recipe.

2 parts Maker’s 46™ Bourbon
1 part St. Germain
10 fresh blueberries

Muddle the St. Germain and blueberries together in a glass. Add ice and the Maker’s 46™. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass.


Strawberry Firecracker

– Sweet & bubbly, this concoction adds an exotic island flair to any beach bound fireworks celebration.

1 ½ parts Sugar Island Coconut Rum
1-2 strawberries
½ parts fresh lime juice
1-2 packets of your choice of sugar substitute
Splash of ginger ale or ginger beer

Muddle sweetener and strawberries together, then add lime, rum and ice. Shake and strain into a tall glass with ice. Top with a splash of ginger ale (diet optional) or ginger beer. Garnish with half a strawberry on the rim of the glass.

An elevated version of a staple cocktail, this Manhattan uses Maker’s 46 for a bolder and more complex rendition for the Dad who likes to step up his cocktailing game.

2 parts Maker’s 46®
½ part sweet vermouth
1-2 dashes Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the cherry.


Dad’s Bittersweet Truth
Nothing beats some advice from Dad; to ease some of that truth, sip on a favorite like the Negroni, but with an extra kick using tequila instead of gin. The richer, yet surprisingly smooth, profile provides a unique way to enjoy tequila on Dad’s special day — all while relishing in candid exchanges (because Dad never holds back).

1 part Tres Agaves Añejo Tequila
¾ part Cynar
½ part Punt e Mes
½ part Carpano Antica
Chocolate Bitters
Stir all ingredients and serve up with an orange twist.

Shake espresso or coffee-infused Sugar Island Spiced Rum and lime juice over ice and strain into a Collins glass. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wheel and candied ginger.

– Espresso-infused spiced rum: Mix ¼ cup of ground espresso or coffee with room temperature Sugar Island Spiced Rum.
– Let the mixture soak for 30 minutes.
– Strain and set

Celebrate The Kentucky Derby with a Mint Julep Cocktail

Today is the big day for the world famous Kentucky Derby. It’s the biggest day in horse racing around the world. If you can’t be there in person, celebrate the big race with a Mint Julep cocktail.

Maker’s Mark is an iconic bourbon brand loved by many. Maker’s Mark is awesome to drink on the rocks or mixed to create a delicious tasting cocktail. The Mint Julep cocktail drink is as popular as the Kentucky Derby itself.

If you are planning to host a Kentucky Derby party or attend a social gathering, be sure to include the Mint Julep cocktail. The great taste of Maker’s Mark bourbon is well known. The luxury spirit brand has put together some classic and innovative cocktail recipes for the big horse race.

Two that I think are so delicious are the Champagne Mint Julep and the Bourbon Ball Mint Julep. In addition, consider trying the Blackberry Mint Julep from Jelly Toast or Watermelon Granita Julep from Take a Megabite. These two fun cocktails offer a unique twist to the traditional mint and bourbon libation.


Maker’s Mark Mint Julep

1 – ½ parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon

Fresh mint

2 tablespoons simple syrup* muddled with mint

Splash of distilled water

Powdered sugar

Mint sprig for garnish

1 cup granulated sugar*

1 cup distilled water*

Mix together simple syrup muddled with mint, Maker’s Mark® Bourbon and distilled water. Fill glass with crushed ice and pour mixture over top. Sprinkle top of ice with powdered sugar. Garnish with a mint sprig. *Simple Syrup: Heat to dissolve sugar, stirring constantly so the sugar does not burn. Set aside to cool.

Bourbon Ball Julep

2 parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon

½ DeKuyper® Amaretto Liqueur

½ DeKuyper® White Crème De Cocoa

¼ parts Dekuyper® Muddled Mint

Sugar and crushed pecans

Pour Maker’s Mark® Bourbon, DeKuyper® Amaretto Liqueur, DeKuyper® White Crème De Cocoa, Dekuyper® Muddled Mint over ice in shaker. Shake well and strain over ice. Sprinkle with sugar and crushed pecan.

Champagne Mint Julep

2 parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon

2 parts sparkling white wine or Champagne

½ parts elderflower liqueur

Lemon twist and mint for garnish

Mix together Maker’s Mark® Bourbon, sparkling white wine, elderflower liqueur. Muddle with mint. Pour over crushed ice and garnish with lemon twist.

This cocktail features Baileys Original Irish Cream and is mixed with chocolate milk and seltzer water. Add some whipped cream and tasty, green doughnut holes. I bet your mouth is already salivating.

Celebrate the luck of the Irish with an Irish Egg Cream cocktail. It’s simple to make and oh so delicious.

Irish Egg Cream
– 1 oz of Baileys Original Irish Cream
– 1 1/2 oz of Chocolate Milk
– 1 1/2 oz of Seltzer Water
– Add Whipped Cream and Green Mini Doughnut for Garnish

1. Combine Baileys Original and chocolate milk in a cocktail shaker, along with ice.
2. Shake well.
3. Pour the seltzer water into the bottom of a cocktail or drink glass.
4. Strain contents from the shaker on top of the seltzer.
5. Garnish with whipped cream and doughnut.

Life in Paris
* 750 parts BANKS 5 Island Rum
* 750 parts Extra Brut Champagne
* 375 parts Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
* 275 parts Chilled Mineral Water
* ½ part Absinthe
* Lemon Oleo-Sarrharum

* Combine everything but the Champagne in a bowl and stir in the oleo-saccharum until it dissolves.
* Chill before service.
* When ready to serve, fill a punchbowl with one large ice block, add Champagne, star anise pods, grapefruit, and lime wheels, edible flowers.
* Finally, garnish with lime wheel and a star anise pod.


As a bonus, we wanted to share another cocktail recipe. This one is made with Bacardi rum. For party guests who desire a little more kick in their favorite drink, Bacardi rum comes to the rescue. Bacardi 8 Años Rum helps create a classic cocktail that will appeal to your sophisticated Oscars party guests.

BACARDÍ 8 Años Old Fashioned
* 2 parts BACARDÍ 8 Años Rum
* 2 dashes Angostura® Bitters
* 1 splash water
* ½ tsp sugar
* 1 orange peel

* In an Old-Fashioned glass, combine the sugar, water and Angostura Bitters with a bar spoon.
* Add half the BACARDÍ 8 Años along with 2-3 large ice cubes, stirring repeatedly.
* Pour in the second half of the rum and 2-3 more ice cubes, continuing to stir. Cut a piece of orange peel (about 5cm long); express the orange peel over the drink, releasing the citrus oils.
* Lastly, drop the peel into the drink to finish.

2 dashes Angostura Bitters Rosemary Sprig (for garnish)

– Combine all ingredients except for ginger beer and shake with ice. Strain over ice into a rocks glass and top with ginger beer. Garnish with a rosemary sprig.


Cruzan® Valentine’s Sparkler
1 1/2 parts Cruzan® Aged Light Rum
1 1/2 part Vanilla Simple Syrup
1/2 part Unsweetened Fresh Cranberry Juice
2 parts Sparkling Wine

– Combine all ingredients in a champagne flute and stir twice. Garnish with an orange peel cut in the shape of a heart.


Be My Peat-Heart? – by NYC mixologist Andrey Kalinin
1 1/2 parts Laphroaig® Select Scotch Whisky
1/2 part Drambuie® Liqueur
1 part Bordeaux Red Wine
3 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Peel (for garnish)

– Add all ingredients together in a mixing glass and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass (served up). Garnish with a flamed orange twist.


Knob Creek® Sour Ginger – by Chef Mike Isabella
1¼ parts Knob Creek® Bourbon
2 parts Fresh Squeezed Ruby Grapefruit Juice
¾ part Domaine de Canton® Ginger Liqueur
½ part Lemon Juice
Lime Wedge, stuffed with Candied Ginger

– Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add Ice and shake. Strain over ice in a rocks glass. Squeeze the lime wedge to disperse the candied ginger into the drink.

3/4 part Lemon Juice
3/4 part Heather Honey Syrup
3 dashes Cardamom Bitters
1 Egg White
Fresh Cardamom (for garnish)

1. Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
2. Dry shake (if using egg white).
3. Add ice and shake vigorously.
4. Pour into a coupe or martini glass (served up).
5. Garnish with cardamom flakes.

1 1/2 parts Laphroaig® Select Scotch Whisky
1/2 part Drambuie® Liqueur
1 part Bordeaux Red Wine
3 dashes Orange Bitters

Here is the drink recipe for the LAVAZZA Coffeetail No. 51

· 3 parts ginger ale
· 2 parts cold brew coffee concentrate
· 2/3 part vodka
· Splash of Grand Marnier
· Splash of simple syrup
· Sliced lemon, orange and cucumber
· Fresh mint
· Maraschino cherries

– Fill a 12 oz. glass with ice.
– In a shaker, combine cold brew, Grand Marnier, vodka and syrup; pour over the ice.
– Top with ginger ale.
– Decorate with wheel or slices of orange and/or a lemon.
– Skewer cherries and cucumber wedge. Garnish with mint.
