First Luxury Animal Terminal – The ARK at JFK Airport

Most air travelers don’t have to deal with the hassle of transporting animals. If you are one of them, New York City’s JFK Airport is trying to make the process a little easier – offering the world’s first, luxury animal terminal – The ARK at JFK.

According to the website, ARK Development, LLC, a Racebrook Portfolio Company is developing The ARK at JFK. It’s planned to become a complete and multi-purpose animal handling and air cargo facility, located at world famous John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.

Once completed, The ARK at JFK will become the world’s first privately owned animal terminal. The animal terminal will be USDA-approved and offer a full-service, 24-hour, airport quarantine facility that handles both the importing and exporting of pets, horses, birds, plus livestock.

Currently as animals arrive at JFK Airport, they must be be quarantined for various periods of time. For example horses require 3 days of quarantine. The goal is to make sure any arriving animals are not carrying contagious diseases.

Back in January, a press release announced that organizers signed a thirty year lease with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The ARK at JFK will consist of 178,000 sq ft and will be located at the former site of Cargo Building 78. This building at JFK was vacant for over ten years.

With construction already underway, planned completion is currently scheduled for 2016. The animal terminal will include a “USDA-­approved import quarantine, veterinary hospital, diagnostic laboratory, and companion animal boarding and grooming spa.”

The ARK of JFK will offer a 20,000 sq ft pet resort, consisting of massage therapy, splashing pools shaped like bones. You can even pamper your pet with “pawdicures with colored nail pawlish.” The pet resort will be managed by Paradise 4 Paws.

According to Racebrook Chairman and Ark founder John J. Cuticelli Jr., “The animal terminal will set new international airport standards for comprehensive veterinary, kenneling and quarantine services.”

In case medical attention is required, The ARK of JFK will feature LifeCare, which is a animal veterinary hospital.

El Galeón will be docked at Pier 15 at the South Street Seaport’s Waterfront Esplanade. Visitors can relive the route of famous explorer Ponce de Leon aboard the amazing, 170-foot wooden ship. Juan Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer lived between 1460 and 1521. He explored a nearby, San Juan Bautista island, which later was named Puerto Rico. He actually as the island’s governor.

There will an available exhibition tilted, “San Pelayo” where you can learn about 16th century European sailing techniques and navigational technology during that era.

El Galeón is an impressive Spanish ship. It features three large masts, seven sails, six decks and even crew quarters. As you step onboard and tour the ship, explore the expansive main and upper decks, plus the quarter and gun decks and Admiral’s room.

Art Miami New York – A Huge, Inaugural Event Success!

Pier 94 In New York City was the locale of the inaugural edition of Art Miami New York. The successful event ended Sunday, May 17th and showcased a wide variety of innovative installations, exhibitions and programming.

Art Miami New York is a modern and contemporary art fair that was produced by Art Miami LLC. This ownership team is comprised of art and media industry veterans – Mike Tansey, Nick Korniloff and Brian Tyler. Art Miami hosts three popular fairs during Miami Art Week plus others including: Art Wynwood in February, CONTEXT New York in March, Art New York in May, Art Southampton in July and finally, Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco in October.

The premier Art Miami New York event featured 100 different international galleries that represented almost 1,200 talented artists from 50 countries around the world. Art Miami New York run during the same time period other art events were taking place in New York City – Frieze week and the Spring Auctions.

The fair is scheduled to be back in NYC and be held once again at Pier 94 between May 12 and 15, 2016. The event will be named, “Art New York presented by Art Miami.”

The art fair provided art lovers a chance to view a wide range of fresh, secondary market works from the world’s top artists. In addition, one would have seen previously unseen primary works from emerging to more established artists.

More than 19,500 people attended Art Miami New York. Included were greater than 5,000 art world luminaries and members of the media who attending the spectacular VIP preview held on May 14th. It gave these people an early-bird opportunity to view and purchase art pieces.

Several of the more notable pieces that sold include – Cernuda Arte (Coral Gables, FL) sold multiple artworks, including the Wilfredo Lam painting The Opened Eyes (1972) with asking price $320,000, a sculpture by Manuel Mendive, Oshen (1989), and a painting by Dayron Gonzalez, Old Man 2, which were offered at $75,000 and $22,000 respectively. In addition, Hollis Taggart Galleries (New York) sold several works from the mid-to- high six figures and including Jack Tworkov’s Ulysses (1951).

Between art critics, participating galleries, art collectors and visitors to the event, Art Miami New York was perceived as a huge success.

Director of Art Miami New York, Katelijne De Backer was quoted,“While the visitors gave us rave reviews and complimented us on the overall design and layout of the fair, it was the superior aesthetic and artistic presentations by participating galleries that were the stars of the show. Their extraordinary efforts did not stay unnoticed: collectors and curators visited steadily through the duration of the fair and sales stayed strong until the end of Sunday.”

NOMO SOHO Hotel in Downtown Manhattan, New York City

The Downtown Manhattan property in New York City, formerly known as the Mondrian SoHo, has just been re-branded and now titled – NOMO SOHO. In a partnership between ASRR Capital, Alex Sapir and Rotem Rosen’s publicly traded Israeli Company, and Gerard Guez, the luxury property will become part of the Preferred Hotel & Resorts’ “Lifestyle” collection.

The Mondrian SoHo hotel was acquired by ASRR Capital and fashion mogul and Buddha Bar founder Gerard Guez out of foreclosure for $205 million. The 263 room hotel was managed by Jason Kalisman’s Morgans Hotel Group. But last week, Sapir Organization took control and announced the property’s re-branding, including the name change to NOMO SOHO.

The NOMO SOHO hotel was built in 2012 and located in an historic neighborhood at 9 Crosby Street in Downtown Manhattan, New York City. NOMO is an abbreviation for “nostalgic + modern” and the hotel plans to blend the area’s culture and modern hospitality. The area surrounding the luxury hotel consists of cast iron architecture along with cobblestone streets.

ASRR Capital made the purchase earlier this year with a goal of expanding their luxury hospitality portfolio. Graham Leslie is the Head of Hospitality and the Chief Executive of NOMO SOHO and was quoted, “The acquisition of NOMO SOHO marks an exciting time for ASRR Capital. This gem of a property will be inspired by the diverse creative types who stay, work and play in this neighborhood. With our guests’ progressive personalities and styles in the forefront of our minds, we’re eager to revamp the experience into a curated environment for all who walk through our doors.”

Leslie has an excellent reputation in the hotel industry and was responsible for starting up the Conrad brand plus worked with many of the world’s most exclusive, iconic properties. Two luxury properties include The Hotel Adlon in Berlin and Plaza Athénée in Paris.
