2013 Golden Globe Awards Nominations Led by Civil War Drama “Lincoln”

Golden Globe Awards

Nominees for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced on Thursday in Beverly Hills, California.  The Golden Globes will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and broadcast live on NBC – January 13, 2013.

The critically acclaimed Golden Globe Awards are a production of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and have been around since the mid-1940s.

The award show initially only honored excellence in movies, but now recognizes awards in 14 total categories for motion pictures and in 11 for television.

Since the Golden Globe ceremony occurs prior to the Academy Awards each year, the entertainment industry closely watches the Golden Globes as a predictor of which films to watch for come Oscar time.

The famous Golden Globe statue given to award winners is a globe that’s surrounded by a piece of film and mounted on a pedestal.

The nominations for next months’ award show is led by Steven Spielberg’s civil-war set drama “Lincoln” with a total of seven categories. “Django Unchained” and “Argo” were next with five nominations each.
