Circus Circus Las Vegas – Non-Stop Family Gaming Fun

Circus Circus Las Vegas

Circus Circus in Las Vegas has long been a family favorite for many years. Circus Circus has it all, from the thrilling rides and midway games in the Adventuredome to fine gourmet dining at The Steak House. This anchor Vegas hotel pleases everyone.

Circus Circus Las Vegas is a circus-themed 3,774 room hotel and 101,000 square feet casino. It’s owned and operated by MGM Mirage. Circus Circus features free circus acts on a regular basis throughout the day.

A runaway hit since opening in 1968, Circus Circus has the unique distinction of appearing in two classic Las Vegas stories: as a malevolent wonderland in Hunter S. Thompson’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and as a backdrop to foreign intrigue in “Diamonds Are Forever.”

While neither story correctly describes this Vegas resort as it truly is — a classic hotel-casino and a great place to bring your kids — they cannot help but illustrate Circus Circus’ distinctive charm, unique not only to Las Vegas but also to the world.

The world-famous main casino floor is always jumping. Overhead, live circus acts — acrobats, trapeze artists, clowns, jugglers — perform around the clock. A carnival midway offers games of skill and chance for all ages.

Nearby, the largest space-frame dome in the United States houses the Adventuredome, an indoor theme park featuring the Canyon Blaster, a double-loop, double-corkscrew roller coaster guaranteed to put a scream on your face.

Don’t let the bright pink exterior fool you, the Circus Circus Adventuredome is jammed with action and thrills. Lying under a five-and-a-half-acre glass encasement, the crazy Adventuredome promises fun for the whole family, both young and old.

Circus Circus also includes several restaurants, a popular poker room, a huge race and sports book, the unique rotating cocktail lounge and a new shopping promenade should serve to reinforce any desire to run away and join the circus.

Double Cross Vodka

Double Cross Vodka
Double Cross Vodka

With the massive amounts of vodka for sale on the market, a company has to be creative about how their product looks in order to grab your attention. The bottles are getting to be more and more unique and now Double Cross Vodka has launched with yet another design award winner.

Double Cross Vodka is unique in that it’s been distilled seven times and filtered through diamond dust. Apparently this filtration leaves an exceedingly tasty vodka that hints at white pepper and lemon zest.

This vodka out of Slovakia has already won Double Gold for bottle design but there hasn’t been any mention of it winning anything for taste. Very little is known about it’s makeup right now as the press release is pretty thin on details, except for how proud they are of it’s design.

Through the Years With Tiffany Luxury Jewelry

Tiffany Jewelry

Tiffany and Co. Jewelers was founded upon the idea of providing high end goods to people of discerning taste who demanded luxury and quality in the products that they purchased.

Tiffany’s products, which include things like beautiful diamonds, silver jewelry, handcrafted silver gifts, tableware and other fine goods continues to attract modern customers, just as they have done since the days Tiffany and Co opened its doors.

Charles Lewis Tiffany – The King of Diamonds

Charles Lewis Tiffany, nicknamed “The King of Diamonds” and business partner John B. Young set up shop in the first Tiffany & Young store in 1837. The famous store, located in New York City on Broadway, the store was original created to be stationary store. Tiffany took over the store, renaming it Tiffany and Co and moved the business towards the high end products with which it is associated today.

Silver Goods and Jewelry

The beautiful silver jewelry pieces from the early days of Tiffany are so classic in their craftmanship and design that many of the original pieces are still sold in some form today. Antique Tiffany pieces that are still in that famous, original light blue boxes can fetch huge money at estate sales and online auctions. The light blue color packaging continues to be the calling card symbol of jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

Some of the goods and products that could be purchased at Tiffany & Co. early in the company’s career include many different silver jewelry pieces, monogrammed sets for dressers, presentation bowls, silver cups and saucers designed for children, silver trays for business cards, men’s dressing sets and silver game pieces. One especially popular item from the late 1800s was the souvenir spoons made Tiffany & Co. and copied by many other manufacturers.

Tiffany Jewelry And Tiffany Lampshades

In 1902, the Tiffany Art Jewelry portion of the store was opened as a means for displaying the jewelry and enamel craftwork of Louis Comfort Tiffany, heir to the Tiffany throne. Louis Tiffany was also the brains behind some of the most famous Tiffany styles, including Tiffany stained glass lampshades. In 1940, Tiffany and Co moved from Broadway to its world famous modern location at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in Manhattan.

The name Tiffany & Co. is associated with timeless and classic luxury items. Today, much of Tiffany’s business comes through catalog and Internet based sales, which have helped spread the Tiffany brand name around the world and made the dream of owning a piece of Tiffany jewelry realizable no matter where you live.

EcoChic HK – Eco Fashion That’s Ecologically & Socially Sustainable

EcoChic HK

EcoChic HK is an environmentally friendly fashion show and cocktail party promoting eco fashion and the concept that luxury living – from fashion to art, food and wine and financial investments – can be ecologically and socially sustainable.

It’s not everyday that Hong Kong’s glitterati are alchemized into green gems, but this was the case in October when celebrities Rain Li, Ivan Wang, Lisa S, William So Wing Hong, Ella Koon, Chau Kai-bong and Mrs Brenda Chau gathered at the hip new W Hong Kong for EcoChic HK – www.ecochicfashions.com

This eco fashion event, supported by UBS, showcased some of the hottest sustainable fashion labels currently on the scene from a host of international and local designers. These ready-to-wear labels wowed the most selective aficionados, serving as a celebratory, fashion-forward occasion to promote environmental sustainability.

Along with ready-to-wear, guests enjoyed vintage fashion – the grandest form of recycling – much of which was donated by Hong Kong’s high society, putting a new and glamorous spin on second hand clothing.

The finale of the show was the eco-couture section, where world-famous designers such as Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon, Nathan Jenden, Arrogant Cat and Madame Marie made eco-couture dresses using eco-textiles or reconstructed clothing. Local designers Barney Cheng, Dorian Ho, Johanna Ho, Ruby Li and Cecilia Yau showed the enormous talent that Hong Kong designers have in highlighting the push towards a more sustainable fashion industry.

With fashion as the second largest industrial consumer of water worldwide, behind agriculture, and cotton responsible for 25 percent of all chemical pesticide use, designers and their followers are realizing it’s time to make a change. Designers in EcoChic HK used a variety of textiles, such as bamboo, organic silk, hemp and recycled textiles, such as saris and kimonos.

The Hong Kong event shows the positive influences that designers can make. With China, the ‘factory of the world’ on Hong Kong’s doorstep, there is perhaps no better place to exert positive moves towards sustainability.

Off the catwalk, guests enjoyed organic food, wine and cocktails, recycled art installations. Never a dull moment, the venue was decorated with over 50 mannequins clad in second hand clothing or eclectic recycled dresses ranging from lottery tickets to cling film.

As no fashion event can be complete without fashion, Sotheby’s conducted a live auction to raise funds for WWF HK – including a slinky pink bikini donated by Rain Li that resulted in heated bidding.

The star-studded event was organized by the Hong Kong non-profit, www.green2greener.com, and many of the looks in the show were available to buy online after the show.

EcoChic also encouraged guests to get into the spirit of the night by bringing with them items of their own clothing to donate, which will be sold on www.green2greener.com to raise funds for Hong Kong charities. Along with this, the site also sells for charity, luxury recycled tote handbags, designed by Kotur, that are made from table coverings from the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

EcoChic HK was the second EcoChic event – EcoChic Jakarta was in March 08. Following the great success of the event, organizers www.green2greener.com, are continuing to take the show on the road with EcoChic Shanghai taking place in January 09 and EcoChic Sydney in April 09.

It’s Prime Time for Blu-Ray Discs

Blu-ray disc cover plate

It seems like only yesterday we were dreading making the change from VHS to DVD. What about all my old VHS tapes? Well that feeling came and went as the DVD format quickly became the industry norm. Sharp clear digital pictures and crystal clear sound.

Well the next media technology battle has been underway for a while and it looks like it’s finally prime time for Blu-Ray.

Patient buyers who held off going the DVD route after years of loading up on VHS tapes may be in luck. Many consumers take a “wait and see” view before jumping to the next hot technology, until there’s a clear and pragmatic value proposition. Vendors believe there are many such buyers in this media market, and the vast majority are comprised of VCR owners.

For them, it now looks like these patient buyers will benefit from waiting out this format war, and will soon experience lower prices, larger libraries, more convenience, and reduced uncertainty.

At first it was easy to overlook those blue-topped packages that separated themselves from the regular DVD’s with their higher prices and promises of a higher-definition picture.

But the retail situation has quickly changed. Blu-ray, which is Sony’s HD format, seems much more prominent. Blockbuster has devoted shelves to the discs for sale and rent, and now Netflix is offering Blu-ray rentals for only a $1 monthly surcharge.

The Blu-ray technology is stunning. Movie fans can’t wait for crystal-clear imagery at home. Even the price of Blu-ray players has fallen so low that they can even be found for under $200 in some cases. The players seem to be one of the “must haves” in this season’s holiday shopping season.

With Sony’s victory over Toshiba’s HD DVD this year in the battle of HD formats, and with studios regularly releasing catalog Blu-ray titles along with new releases, Blu-ray is no longer ignorable. But is it inevitable?

So what do you do with your soon to be outdated DVD”s. Nothing because they will still work in your new Blu-ray player. Whether you buy a Blu-ray player or a Sony PlayStation 3, which also plays Blu-ray discs, DVD’s can still be viewed.

“It’s like taking a wallet-size photo that looks great, and now we take it to 8 by 10 and say, “Why are these dots all over the place?’ ” Schiller said. “It’s because you’re enlarging the image, and the image starts to degrade more.”

My Diet Is Fighting Against Me

Diet Battle

Whether you’re for or against diets, unless you really go out of your way to bend the rules, you will see some sort of result for all your pain and discomfort. If there is a positive outcome, no matter how small, those who have had to put up with your short temper and changeable moods will be mighty relieved.

Going on a diet gives your body a bit of a shock. It has got used to the daily excess of calories and knows that it’s not going to get stressed taking exercise because you don’t do any. When all of a sudden you decide to go on a diet and move yourself a little more than usual, it comes as a bit of a rude awakening.

Depriving your body of the calories sends out a signal that it interprets as there is going to be a shortage of food. It may not be life threatening, but the level of change in your daily calorie intake causes it to go into protection mode. It closes down and stores whatever energy it can. It makes you hungry so that you go and find more to eat. All this is why you feel lousy on a diet.

Having lost a few pounds in the first flush of your diet, your body’s metabolism starts to slow down. This effectively means that you become less efficient at burning calories.

This is our body’s built-in survival instinct. You could take in more calories, but then again your metabolism might still be slow and you’ll end up with more fat than before.

This is the time when you begin to lose hope. You bin the scales, not believing what they’re saying. You question the wisdom of going on a diet in the first place. It all gets very depressing indeed.

What you’re experiencing is your body working against you. It doesn’t like you disturbing its natural rhythms, its balance, its homeostasis – whether it’s right or wrong.

The secret is actually not to go on a diet at all. What you need to be thinking about is changing your behaviors. Examine them and find out which ones made you overweight in the first place. Then you need to learn new habits – slim habits.

Can Lake Tahoe Ever Freeze Over?

While Lake Tahoe doesn’t get nearly as cold as some parts of the country it does get a wee bit chilly here in the winter.

In fact, on January 20th 1937 the Boca Weather Station observed California’s lowest recorded temperature of 45 degrees below 0 (F). While average temperatures around the lake are generally quite a bit warmer than 45 below we still see roughly 20-30 days a year of below freezing weather.

Combine these temperatures with an average snowfall of just over 200 inches and people are bound to start asking, “Does Lake Tahoe ever freeze over?”

The simple answer to the question is, no. While some ice has been spotted in one or two well protected bays, the entire surface of Lake Tahoe does not freeze over. Why? Great question. There are roughly 3 main factors that prevent Lake Tahoe from freezing over.

1. Lake Tahoe is Too Big to Freeze Over
Lake Tahoe has a surface area of just over 122,000 acres containing an astonishing 39 trillion gallons of water. Considering the average water temperature of the lake is around 68 degrees (F), it would take some substantially cold days for long periods of time before Lake Tahoe began to freeze over. Unfortunately (or fortunately) point 3 below kind of prevents this.

2.Lake Tahoe’s Water is Always Moving.
For water to freeze there must first be a site where crystals begin to form. This is difficult in Lake Tahoe because the water in the lake is always moving. Even on the calmest days when there’s not a boat on the lake the water is moving. Water at the top of the lake is cooled by the air temperature and begins to sink. Warmer water that was insulated by the water above begins to rise. The process then starts all over. This sinking and rising water creates a current which prevents the mass of water from ever getting cold enough while at the same time making it difficult for ice crystals to form.

3.Lake Tahoe is Typically Sunny.
Lake Tahoe sees about 275 sunny days a year. While it does get cold here, it never gets cold enough for a long enough period of time to create much ice on the lake. Even if it did get cold enough to make some large sections of ice this only creates other factors that will likely stop or slow the freezing of the entire lake.

Some More Sciency Stuff
As stated in point 3 even if it did get cold enough for some ice to form on Lake Tahoe it would take quite a lot for the whole lake to freeze. Why? There are some interesting things about ice that ironically prevent freezing. First, ice is a great insulator. As ice forms at the surface the water below is insulated and therefore prevented from freezing. Second ice floats. While this may seem trivial, it’s the floating of the ice that allows the water below to stay insulated. Lastly, as the top layer of ice becomes thicker the insulation only gets better. In theory, it becomes proportionally more difficult for water to freeze the more water above it is frozen. Weird, I know.

Apart from some Hollywood special effects we probably wont be seeing Lake Tahoe freeze over anytime soon. The lake is way too big and the sun shines way to often for Lake Tahoe to become the largest skating rink in the country.

While it would be fun to cruise across the lake on a kite powered skates, seeing the contrast of Lake Tahoe’s blue water against the white snow covered mountains is something I never get tired of looking at.  Article by: Aaron Robbins

Project Veloce – BMT Nigel Gee’s New Pentamaran Super Yacht

BMT Nigel Gee - Project Veloce

Christmas is nearing. What do you get that rich millionaire that has it all? How about a super yacht?
Now here’s one sure to make the shopping lists of the world’s richest marine enthusiasts.

BMT Nigel Gee has announced a high-speed Pentamaran concept aimed at the large yacht market. This patented high-speed Pentamaran concept to the large yacht market, Project Véloce, which is capable of speeds of over 40 knots.

Developed for high-speed applications, the patented Pentamaran hull form is a derivative of the stabilized monohull concept featuring a long slender central hull, hydrodynamically optimized without the constraints of needing to be stable as stability is provided by two pairs of outriggers or ‘sponsons’.

Project Veloce is truly an innovative application of technology in the large yacht market and is based on a 130m platform capable of over 40 knots. The beam of 30m offers significantly more internal area than on an equivalently sized monohull leading to exceptional internal spaces with true flexibility in configuration of the layout.

Conventional stabilized monohulls typically require relatively deeply immersed and long sponsons to meet damaged stability requirements and these can incur significant resistance penalties. The Pentamaran overcomes this by having two pairs of sponsons; a very short and shallow pair aft and a forward pair clear of the static water surface.

These forward sponsons only become immersed as the vessel heels, consequently stability characteristics are maintained with no resistance penalty. The Pentamaran offers a wide bodied and stable platform with outstanding seakeeping characteristics whilst retaining minimum speed loss in higher sea states.

The propulsion system features a CODOG (Combined Diesel Or Gas) plant producing approximately 44MW of installed propulsive power, delivered via waterjets offering outstanding maneuverability and acceleration. For low and medium speed operation twin 20V8000 diesels are utilized providing efficient long range operation whilst for sprintsprint speeds a single LM2500+ pushes the speed beyond 40 knots.

BMT has undertaken some US$5 million worth of testing on numerous Pentamaran designs and the technology is now fully mature. Further development of the Project Véloce design is currently underway. Source: Gizmag
